Ad-Free Gawker And Page Six Blogs Launched

An anonymous blogger has launched two Blogspot-hosted Blogger blogs. One steals Gawker's entire editorial content word for word. The other steals the Post's Page Six content. The only thing these two blogs leave behind are the ads. In an announcement email about the Page Six Blog, the emailer claiming to be "a v" wrote, "The idea of the NY POST becoming spam peddlers has forced us to create a blog to alleviate gossip hounds of any barriers to daily trash. We don't like registration gates and here is our method of bypassing them."

Both blogs provide ad-free content. The Page Six Blog allows visitors to view Page Six content without having to go through registration. Unsurprisingly, inquiry emails to "a v" have gone unanswered. Either this will turn into a giant legal cease and desist party or it will turn out to be some kind of insider joke. Tick, tock, tick, tock...

UPDATE: "a v" responds to email: "This is a piece of performance art meets media. We wanted to see if we can draw viewership away from popular online blogs and news sites by removing the advertising. Would people actually enjoy the site more without the pop up advertising, drag overs, and other obtrusive types of online banner advertising?

Plus most people read the NY POST for the Gossip only so to us it was interesting to note that and really expose the NY POST for the right wing rag that it is. Also we have come to the conclusion that the registration process adopted by the POST was done in an effort to collect emails. We do not endorse spam dealers or peddlers!"

Well, I'm not as popular as Gawker, but there is someone stealing my posts too (and she/he is stealing also from Adrants and Adcritic but not as often).

I don't link the "criminal" blog for obvious reasons, but if someone has a suggestion on how to stop it, I will be happy to hear it.

Thanks

Oh, he's going to get sued SO BAD.

Meh... I prefer the pictures on gawker. ITs just not the same without them!!

Martina, try e-mailing them and asking firmly but politely that they stop. Record all e-mails. If it continues, and it's worth your time and money, see if a lawyer can send a cease-and-desist. If all else fails, e-mail me and I can pursue less savory tactics. (cough, cough.)

AdMuncher to strip the ads. Greasemonkey to re-arrange the page the way you like. BugMeNot for the stupid "free" on-line newspaper sign-ins (the best!)

Get Mozilla Firefox and you never have to see an ad on a page you look at a lot. No need for wholesale ripoff of the pages. Each individual can control the pages they see as he likes.

Adblock is a kick ass add-in for Mozilla that stops the ads from being downloaded. RIP will let you point at page elements after they are downloaded and they will never be displayed again.

The tools are already there.

What is really bizarre about this is that the Page6blog has Daily News ads on it. I thought it was supposed to be ad free? Whoever is doing this is a young, confused, and generally bored person.

It's funny on some level but not necessarily witty.

ROAR!

It was me who stole the site. I am rather talented at stealing. However, it is usually jewelry that I steal.
