Four Pound Vogue Beast Makes Its Thump

vogue_sept.jpg

Tipping the scale at four pounds, the September issue of Vogue contains 691 ad pages beating last years record of 651. While Vogue Publisher Thomas Florio is lovin' it, we have to wonder what it's like as an advertiser to have a one in 691 chance of your ad being seen. Can you say ego buy?

We keep a copy of Vogue for public perusal in our coffeeshop. This month's issue is already dogeared, coffee-stained and otherwise abused. Whether that's good for advertisers is questionable, but this issue seems to be thumbed through more frequently than an other issue of any mag we offer. Best thing is, with so many ads, when our customers decide to rip a few out, it's likely the next reader won't even notice.

People are deliberately buying a 4 pound magazine, with 691 pages of ads. They are purposely buying this issue for the ads. Willing target consumers, consciously paying to look at your ad, is a rare, non-ego driven purchase.
