United Church of Christ to Continue Controversial Campaign

ucc_bouncer.jpg

Stirring the pot again, the United Church of Christ, the church that, earlier this year, ran ads mocking other churches showing a bouncer who refused entry to minorities and gays is planning a new ad. The first ad, "Bouncer," part of the $3 million "God is Speaking" campaign, was refused by ABC, NBC and CBS. The church promises the second ad will be in the same vein as the "Bouncer" ad.

Shouldn't that be 'minorities and gays' - not 'minors and gays'?

The original ad was excellent however, the United Church of Christ claims to be "inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ". A "church" really needs to be more than that. Jesus never said a word about homosexuality but said hundreds of things condemning exclusivity to His Church. The United Church of Christ hit the nail on the head with their ad. If only other churches who focus solely on Christ would do the same! Loving the sinner and hating the sin is not Biblical, especially in dealing with people who cannot, did not choose who and what they are. Jesus calls EVERYONE, not just heterosexuals. He never said, "BE this first."

Jake is right about Jesus calling everyone... but He says "I love you, but I want you to change!" -- that applies to all sinners (i.e. everybody), and includes homosexuality as something that needs to be changed. Jesus didn't have to say anything about it -- it was already addressed very clearly in the Old Testament.

I have no problem with gays going to church. That's great! Just don't ask me to "accept" your lifestyle any more than I "accept" the lifestyle of the lying and cheating gossip that lives next door to you.

Wow, KB. What's going on in your house?

Posted by: Brent on August 8, 2005 5:27 PM

well KB. the old testament also ordered the slaughter of innocents because "god" was angry. if i recall correctly (and forgive me for my laziness for not recalling chapters and verses) one of king david's sons actually raped his sister and that was allowed. and then, the lesser known truth. its reported that jesus came to free people from the stifling law. seems that you're...um...getting all stifled and everything.

i FEEL SO SAD FOR YOU PEOPLE. CHRIST IS LOVING. GOD IS A LOVING AND JUST GOD AND HE IS ALSO MERCIFUL. YET, YOU ARGUE WITH ONE ANOTHER WHICH IS STATED IN THE BIBLE TO AVOID ARGUMENT. IF YOU REALLY DIG INTO GOD'S WORD YOU WOULD SEE THAT HOMOSEXUALITY IS A SIN, ELSE GOD WOULD HAVE CREATED ADAM AND ADAM, NOT ADAM AND EVE. WE ARE TO LOVE EVERYONE AND ESPECIALLY OUR ENEMIES, BUT WE CAN NOT HATE THEM FOR THEIR ACTIONS, BUT WE CAN DIRECT THEM TO SEEK GUIDANCE FROM GOD. AND AS FOR ANGRY CHRISTIANS... WELL IF THERE ARE ANY THEY NEED TO REFLECT THE LOVE OF CHRIST AND BE MORE LIKE GOD... WHICH IS SLOW TO ANGER. GOD IS JUST... AND HE WILL TURN HIS WRATH ON SINNERS, BUT LET US NOT FORGET WHAT HE SENT CHRIST FOR... OUR SINS, AND HE LOVED US THIS MUCH!! LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR, WHETHER THEY BE HOMOSEXUAL, HETEROSEXUAL, BLACK, WHITE OR GREEN... SHOW THEM LOVE AND MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, THEY WILL BE WILLING TO CHANGE!! GOD BLESS, M!
P.S. JESUS LOVES YOU!!

Hey Missy and KB,

I'm a lesbian, and maybe Jesus DOES love me. But why would he tell YOU???

Get a life.

I hardly think that homosexuality is a particularly "healthy"lifestyle when one sees all the death and destruction it has wrought through AIDS..Jesus loves Saint and Sinner, but he said nothing about loving sin...
