Saab UK Launches Engaging Online game

saab_race.jpg

We think we've just stumbled upon one of the most enjoyable, most addictive and most entrancing online games in a very long time. Random Culture notes Saab UK has launched Race Against Time, an online "choose your own adventure" game, similar to the recently launched Choose Your Sauce KFC game, in which players take a Saab for a timed drive having to make multiple decisions upon the way. From deciding to stop for gas or not, ask directions or guess, give a stranger a ride or not, and more, the game sucks the player in and keeps the interest high. Very nice work created by Draft London which designed, shot, wrote and produced the site.

Agree - it's a nicely produced game, however where is the branding??
Apart from some sleek shots of the car at the begining and end - oh and I think there was one somewhere in the middle the branding is very poor.

There are plenty of opportunities to introduce references to the car - the handling, fuel efficiency, safety etc but alas these have been missed.
9/10 for the idea
6/10 for execution
could do better

Yeah, they could have done that, but that would have made it crap and cheesy wouldn't it Andy. I'm sure you could do much better.

I thought this was an amazing execution for a choose your own adventure interactive video game, online no less. As far as opportunities to inject more about the car, I think that would be too hard selling for this brand and kind of annying if it were to appear wihing the "game" copy (after choosing a path--this is a Saab after all. Perhaps those details could have been handled in a "tab" feature that just lists these features simply and clearly?

Dear Suz,

the detailed spec of the car is viewable by hitting the 9-3 sportwagon link at the top of the page. This then takes you to the main product site.

Ooh, I thought this being a corporate site and all, the hitchhicker wouldn't knife me. Boy was I wrong. Watch out for that fuckerr.

Am i the only one finding this game boring as hell? It's not fun to play, it's not interesting, it's pointless.
I painfully forced myself to play it until the end as I was expecting it to get better. But it didn't.
Nice idea indeed but no fun at all.

I've played about 6 times now. Some routes are definitely more interesting than others, but I guess that's the point with a choose your own adventure game. I found it pretty cool to play, perhaps some of the clips could have been shortened, but other than that, I was impressed. Some beautiful scenery too.

ah ms fison

it's good to see the agencies monitoring comments - hopefully they will take some of them on board for future work

From an advertising standpoint, the KFC thing made more sense since the product they were advertising was all about choice. But i don't see why Saab did this thing. Not product related. Either way, more power to the guys who sold this.
