Whopperettes Create Human Burger King Whopper

OK, we were already to hate the Burger King Brooke Burke Whopperettes commercial until all those Whopperettes started flying through the air, dressed like burger ingredients, and landing face first, one on top of each other, until they formed a Whopper presented by Burke all while that really freaky looking Burger King dude looked on. From Crispin and we like it. See the ad here. And thank you Crispin for making it so easy for us ad types that obsess over this stuff to actually find and view the ad. Much appreciated.

Forgive me my ignorance (I'm Australian), but what's going on with their "Have It Your Way" tagline?

I can understand a build-your-own fast food outlets like Subway using that line, but surely a Whopper is a Whopper; either "Like It Our Way" or don't like it at all?

Burger King allows you to customize any of their burgers. Always has. The original words were something like:

"Hold the pickles, Hold the lettuce
Special Orders don't upset us.
Have it your way, at Burger Ki...ing!"

I can still sing it, even though I don't think they have used this version for 15 years.

A little Googling tells me they started this campaign in 1973, which surprises me ... I would have guessed 1969.

An overproduced bore. It didn't even make the Top 10 in USA Today's survey, coming in somewhere around the middle of the pack. The folks at Burger King's corporate headquarters can't be too thrilled with such an anemic showing, especially considering that: A) most of the commercials this year were lame in the extrme, and B) they must have spent at least $6,000,000 on production and media buy. Nice.

It was back in the Land that Time Forgot of Jingo World. Dovetailed nicely with McD's version:

"Two all beef patties special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame-seed bun."

Shite, I remembered it. I guess advertising works.)
