Life-Like Stickers of Children on Doors Call Attention to Begging

push_beg.jpg

Childcare India is running a campaign in India that affixes life-like stickers of begging children to glass doors to call attention to apparently rampant child begging. The campaign's headline, placed on a sticker near the door's handle, is "Push him out of begging. Not out of your way."Some of us might call it creepy. We'd like to call it effective advertising.

If child begging is so rampant, why the need to call attention to it? Just let the real children do the work.
Clearly, another case of "fake" creatives drummed up for awardshows...

Awesome work!

Because CF, it is is so rampant people have become oblivious and desensatized to it and need to be reminded about it by something that doesn't really go away. It's kinda creepy and hard to ignore. People walk past little begging boys and girls like these on the streets of India on a daily basis. Some attention no matter how the method, needs to draw attention to this.

So, Janeofalltrades, that means this idea which is designed to "call attention" is solving the wrong communication problem: change mindsets. Trust me, this is a classic case of a solution in search of a problem, not the other way around. And yes, I have been to India countless time. It is indeed creepy and "hard to ignore" (See? Again, it's not an attention problem.)

This will have the effect of completely desensitizing people to starving kids, after which they should start to die off immediately. A little cold, but admirably shrewd long-term thinking on Childcare India's part.

Great... sweet. It works extremely well...

Errr... remind me not to shop at that store again though. Hey store owners... Congratulations on losing customers. * cheers.

Great to see that something is being done to stop child begging and probably what they have done may not be the best solution, but certainly makes the people think and act on it. Thanks to the shopkeeps for letting the pictures on the glass doors.

I'm sure the "shopkeeps" didn't mind having these stickers on their door--they were probably on there just long enough to take the picture.

It probably a longer amount of time to fill out the awards entries than these stickers stayed on the front door of any actual business.

I like this one just about as much as I like a petition stuffed in my face at a business front door. I find myself humming the old song "Just Walk On By." Social norms in India say this one is a failure. Awards, I hope not.
