United Church of Christ Launches 'Rejected' Campaign, Attacks ABC

Continuing its "God is Still Speaking" Campaign, the United Church of Christ (congregational) has launched a continuation of its campaign with a spot called Rejected that highlights the church's open acceptance of all lifestyles. This campaign also calls attention to the Church's dissatisfaction with ABC for rejecting its past ads and the network's seeming bias towards right-wing religious leaders such as Jerry Falwell, James Dobson and Pat Robertson and its exclusion of mainline religious voices. The campiagn points to a petition letter that will be sent to ABC asking the network to reconsider its stance on religious content and advertising. And, yes, they are advertising right here on Adrants.

It is refreshing to see a church actually acting like they read the words of Jesus.

Yeah, cause Jesus was all about mudslinging and painting millions of people with a big, wide "bigot" brush. If you think the UCC ads are indicative of Jesus's words, I suggest you spend some more time reading them.

How does the UCC consider their views "mainline" anyway? The last stats I saw showed that since the "Bouncer" ad ran they have fewer churches, fewer members, and "a projected budget shortfall in 2006 of over $1 million dollars in national support". Sounds like they're becoming more and more of a minority voice, not mainline.

Also, can the adverising campaign be considered "successful" if it isn't bringing new members?
