Nikon Celebrates Optics With Military Gun Site Ad

nikon_and_war.jpg

Following in the boundary-pushing footsteps of the Schering baby-in-a-dumpster ad comes this Thialand ad for the Nikon Cool Pix S4 which uses military gun site imagery to convey the effectiveness of Nikon technology. Surely and ad that would never run in America but, apparently, the rest of the world has dispensed with this thing called political correctness.

This ad is cool. But its use to advertise a camera is a bit head-down..sigh...fucked up. I am not suprised that JWT would do it. It is cool and gets eyeballs, but I am surprised that Nikon would go with it. Now if this were a publically advailable targeting system, adaptable for semi-autos and advertised in Guns and Ammo, then I would say right on and kick ass. Bad move Nikon.

Very poor taste.

It's a scam. Happens all the time in this part of the world. Internationally people think that the stuff is really creative and pushing the envelope in this part of the world, but the truth is creatives make this stuff up and pay to have it produced and run it themselves. True for 90% of the award winning stuff in Asia unfortunatly.
