BBDO West Launches Anti-Graffiti, Zoo Pro-Bono Work

graffiti_150_sf.jpg

BBDO West has been busy lately and has just released two new pro-bono projects. The first is an anti-graffiti campaign for the city of San Francisco supporting the Mayor's Graffiti Abatement Program. The out of home campaign shows how certain graffiti can affect an environment with images of graffiti placed in people's homes. While comparing a public place to a private place might not be the best argument against graffiti, it does make the point strongly. The second pro-bono campaign was launched earlier this week for the San Francisco Zoo and consists of light poles transformed into giraffe banners.

UPDATE: Several people have submitted spoofs of this campaign to street art site Wooster Collective.

this is a pathetic ad shame on the people who put it together get a real job or get aids and understand a real problem who thinks of this crap ?

Juls, When I first saw this on Wooster Collective blog, the image of the baby's room was all I could see, and before I read the post, I thought ... What a great idea for a kid's room! So you're not the only one. I like the bathroom, too.

And the campaign is a fear-mongering outrage ... a complete waste. Shame.

THE best is that their Romanian wing of BBDO is called Graffiti BBDO. I kid you not:

graff is surely not the problem to be fought agaist so hard, anyway, as a design solution, i like these ads very much. fuck the campaigns tho ...

It probably would have been more provocative to simply show graffiti on actual vandalized structures (like churches, children’s schools, etc.). It sure would be funny to see these executions as OOH, as taggers would have a field day. Plus, the depicted graffiti seems kinda dated and stereotypical; the adfolks responsible should have tapped into what’s happening out there right now. Finally, the stop it “before it really spreads” notion is pretty paranoid and silly. What do the advertisers actually expect people/the public to do here?

who wants to make an anti-BBDO west campaign?
oh, my bad, they already did.

graf causes cancer. im sicker for looking at it. for every can thats sprayed. a puppy dies. im wondering how many kittens died in the making of this add. i know the "greater good" bullshit but, im still very angry. im going on strike. im fasting and sniffing fumes until our world is utopia and we all turn into buhddas and disintegrate. myspace me when it happens, ill be watching tv.

The kitchen and bath graff looks pretty cool. The baby room and could be cool, but those tags look pretty lousy to me. Maybe they should have gotten someone other than the intern to make the throw ups. Give that kid a crayon!

This one gets the message across pretty powerfully. Who's the criminal -- from Wooster Collective.

So the same ad company that made anti-graf ads... also made a campaign that *looks* like graf (the giraffe/pole). Anyone else see the irony?

I actually find the environments kind of attractive, especially the kitchen - I could easily go for a kitchen like that if I'd have a house!

Kind of basquiat-esque if you ask me...

Funny, advertising grips graff in alot of ways. They want to use it for "street cred" for their clients, but they will never support the art form. Funny because most graffiti artist's I know usually become designers or art directors. And yes and those tags are pretty wack, no foundation of letter structure. Hell they can't even get graffiti fonts to look proper yet what did you expect?
