Campaign Says Don't Show Your Panties When Drunk

There's nothing like a campaign focused towards women in mini skirts laying drunk on the sidewalk with their panties exposed to get the world writing about it. Yup. The Suffolk (England - the only place this kind of campaign could happen) police, continuing their "Lock Em' Inn" campaign which urges people not to misuse alcohol, have published a Conde Nasty-like magazine called Safe! that, through its tongue-in-cheek lifestyle editorial approach, continues to urge women not to drink too much, not to wander around alone and to make sure they get home safely - with their pants on.

The magazine, with a circulation of 50,000, is targeted to the primary offenders - 18-25 year olds - carries horoscopes, beauty tips relating to alcohol's affect on the skin, fashion advice and dietary sections on the effects of drinking too much booze. The magazine also carries images of drunken women with captions such as "If you've got it, don't flaunt it" and accompanying copy, "If you fall over or pass out, remember your skirt or dress may ride up. You could show off more than you intended. For all our sakes, please make sure you're wearing nice pants and that you've recently had a wax."

While America's myriad overwrought cause groups would never let a campaign like this happen, to us, it's a mercifully light hearted and effective approach that, thankfully, steers clear of scare tactic and preachy Truth Campaign-like efforts which accomplish nothing but pontification. We have no idea if this campaign will be successful but it certainly appears to be a message far more easily swallowed by the target group than most "don't be an idiot" anti-drinking ads. Here's an image of the magazine's cover.
