Fat Stomach, Quirky Bubble Gum, James Spader Fill Week's Ads

This week, in Ad Age's TV Spots of the Week, there's an ad for Old Navy that's just goofy enough to be good. If you were ever scared as a kid that blowing a giant bubble with bubble gum would send you into the sky, this spots for you. There's also a great spot for the Acura RDX in which Mac G5's worship the vehicle while Secretary-kinky and Boston Legal-smarmy James Spader intones the voiceover. And what's up with this? A third spot in a row we like. Yes. An ad for Secret Deoderant has two sisters talking to each other and one reveals to the other she told their mother about the other's first sexual encounter.

There's also standard fair from BMW but only until you realize the spot was shot on a sunny day and the storm in the ad was entirely CGIed. In a spot for DirecTV about its feature that let you watch eight games at the same time, an old guy whose face we know but whose name we can't place waxes less than eloquently about how things were in his day. The Terminator takes California forward in two new political ads. Hmm, and who would have thought we'd like the music in a JC Penny ad but we do. Lastly, we could barely concentrate on the content of a commercial for Disney Mobile once we saw the gigantic stomach on the poor girl in the ad.

There's no such thing as a Mac G5 laptop!

And the AdAge site incorrectly refers to them even more incorrectly as G5 Mac Books.

Okay, I think that Old Navy spot sucks. What's the point of the bubble? Hate it.

Not sure how I feel about the Secret campaign. I like the individual commercials, but the user submitted texts are downright depressing for the most part. Then again, that's what secrets are, eh? Why keep good news to yourself?
