DVR Fast Forwarding to Net Full Frame Billboards

die_advert.jpg

With this new patented invention from Colin Davies, the marketers vs. DVR ad skippers war continues to heat up. Davies' system allows for full frame, still images to be placed on screen while a person is fast forwarding through ads. This is almost kind of funny. It's so amusing to see what each side of this battle comes up with to usurp the other side's efforts. TiVo already does something similar to this during its fast forward process. Although we don't mind watching a still ad while fast forwarding, sometimes we actually do want to see what we're fast forwarding past so we hope this system allows for some method of accomodating that.

Uh, maybe people fast forward advertising because THEY DON'T WANT TO WATCH IT? Who thinks force-feeding people ads is an effective way of selling a product?

Steve,

What I find even funnier is the fact that these companies just don't get it! When consumers purchase hardware that lets them skip ads, THEY WANT TO SKIP ADS! Not be force-fed a different type of ad.

I understand they are hurting for ad revenue but doing this just alienates their user base and forces consumers to competing technologies that don't intrude on them when they've specifically taken steps to prevent that.

I hope this pushes more and more viewers to download their TV shows from Bittorrent networks where the release groups have so kindly stripped out all of the advertisements.

If they block my view, how will I know that the ads are over? Maybe we'll get teh technology we've been waiting for and have the damn machines skip the ads and stop automatically!!!
