Porsche Hands Brand to Owners With Personalized Vehicle Names

bruce_porsche.jpg

Adrants reader John Brock tells us Porsche owners can now name their Porsche 911 models. Rather than the model insignia on the back of the vehicle, the owners name or any word they choose will now appear in the same Porsche typeface ans the model name did. Talk about handing your band over to the people. Not all brands can get away with this but an established, high-end brand like Porsche certainly can. Nice move.

UPDATE: Apparently, Porsche is not behind this rather an enterprising person in he Netherlands. We'd still like to see Porsche embrace this somehow rather than kill it.

It isn't clear on that site if they are in fact affiliated with Porsche.

I'm guessing they're not, or they would proudly identify such an affiliation.

However, what does one do if one buys a Porsche with said personalization? Would one have to live with driving an "Engelbert 911 Carrera"?

I hope they keep the original!

The URL is owned by someone in the Netherlands, and I doubt that Porsche has anything at all to do with this, and in fact would oppose strongly having their names removed. My guess is that a C&D is being prepared as we speak.

Before this enterprise gets slammed by Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG., I'll bet they sell a few of these -- 99% to Valley Girls, I'm betting.

How about "Wanker" - that pretty much sums it up
