Forum Drives Tom Green to Depression, Neuroses, General Scariness

tomgreen.jpg

For Snakes on a Plane we witnessed what a forum can do when they really like you. For Tom Green we might see what a forum can do when you're teetering over the edge of sanity.

Post Freddy Got Fingered (among other tribulations) it would be an understatement to say Tom is upset with his fans. Since the cancellation of his short-lived MTV show he has little hope that his months-old internet efforts will do much better.

Here to aggravate the matter is Caturday-obsessed image forum /b/. Members blow up Tom's desk phone to ask (every episode without fail) for a barrel roll, one of many inside jokes of which Tom is the butt. After a phone call in which a /b/ member says "Show's closed due to AIDS" he irritably explains the ruling logic: they want a meltdown. He might just give it to them.

We oscillate between worry for Tom Green and worry he'll kill us in our sleep. He is not the amusing stunt-chaser we knew and loved. Even Andy Dick won't show up on his shows. We feel depressed just saying his name.

A late night Jew-baiting drunken arrest might help about now. Or a meltdown stand-up performance.

When your fame is your quirkiness, it only lasts so long. Example: "Weird" Al. And when you're dissed by Andy Dick, the C-list King, it's officially over.

Very sad.

Someone give him a hug.

I considered it but he might bite

This article is bullshit. Tom doesn't give two shakes about /b/. He knows what they were doing and although initially taken aback, eventually responded by embracing the new viewers, causing them to eventually loose interest. You obviously discovered something old in his on-demand section or the self-aggrandizing /b/-YouTubers because this /b/ stuff is old news. Look at the most recent shows - not ONE /b/ caller. Lately he has responded with the logic that a new viewer is a new viewer, no matter why they watch and regularly responds with "Ka-Ching" when they prank. They are bored and have moved on, proving they were never his "fans" anyway.

Andy Dick no-showed ONE night due to a communication error. He has been on Tom's show at least four times in about six months. He's hardly outside of Tom's reach. Please, write what you know, not what you can pull out of your ass.

Calm down there, cowboy. This ain't the New York Times.

Posted by: ariel on December 21, 2006 01:20 PM

Calm down cowboy? Whats the matter with you? You had no real idea what you were writing about...someone responds who has some knowledge on the topic, and you tell him to calm down?

Your reply sucked.

Posted by: Derek on December 21, 2006 02:07 PM

I didn't write the article, smart one. I told him to calm down because he seems to be taking it personally, not because he shouldn't supply information.

So my reply sucked - I wasn't really aiming to be the ubercool commenter of the week.

I agree with James, the information that you used to write this article is incredibly dated. See we have some know how considering he's a moderator and I'm an administrator on this board you claim is slowly driving Tom towards the brink of insanity. From reading this it seems as if you simply had a deadline to meet and nothing down on paper. This article looked completely thrown together with no real information that any idiot could get from watching the earlier shows, and you threw in some intelligent sounding jabs at the man and what hes trying to do.

If you took an actual look at the forums you'll see that the majority of people on the board have nothing but love for Tom and what he does. I'm not saying that there isn't the occasional prick that gets on and starts throwing out the most idiotic and offensive crap. And there is a good deal of constructive critisim because the members want nothing better for the channel to succeed.

Before you write another article, please do a good deal of research so you don't make yourself look like an idiot. If you would have just jumped on the forum and talked to the people, the mods, or Tom himself, I'm sure any of them would have given you any information you wanted.

PS. Don't believe the "meltdowns" and certain things Tom says on the show. It's comedy. Don't believe everything you see.

It's sweet that you guys think I'm an idiot and all that cuddly shit, but if the news is old or the tone is off then why don't you send over some updated information for a second post. I'd be happy to revisit.

I think that the author of this piece (I'm not sure it should even be called that) hasn't a clue as to what they are talking about. It's clear to eveyone that they have a bias againt Tom & cannot seem to do up-to-date & correct research on their own. It's sad when others post incorrect rubbish & are such feeble-minded individuals. If you decide to attempt another high school essay at least get the facts correct, i.e, Andy Dick has made several appearances on Tom Green Live.

Tom Green is on the forefront of technology. He is doing something very new. Also, he has deputy's from all over the world who support him. He has had a website for a very long time and nobody paid attention until now. He has worldwide fans and caters to everybody, e.g. not only inviting the public into his house but also making the viewer feel like a guest in his house. He was the original pioneer for pranks on film and camera, and in my opinion had a big part in the shift of popularity towards reality TV. It doesn't get any more real than this folks!
Does everything in your life go exactly as planned?
His die-hard fans and his openness towards the minorities will fulfill the legacy of Tom Green long after he is gone.

I hear that the author is going to look at new information. If this is true, you can email me and I'll try and hook you up with anything I can if James hasn't covered everything....which I doubt ;)

Sorry Tom, you're just not funny anymore.
Now please gracefully step down from the spotlight.
Or continue being a fuckstick, your choice.

Tom Green's just trying something a little different. The show's still in it's early stages, and he doesn't even have writers or anything yet. Wait a while to judge it.
