Bummed GM Robot Contemplates Suicide

gm_robots.jpg

We imagine robot ennui is a growing problem as our mechanical friends become more complex and prevalent in our every day lives. We're glad GM is raising awareness about this problem early on, as demonstrated in their we're-obsessed-with-quality ad.

The ad didn't bring much of interest to the table but we're always at least a little interested in things, however non-human, that contemplate suicide over something really really trivial. And most things are. So, it's probably safe to say we're pretty generally interested in most people/things that consider offing themselves. Interested enough to report them, anyway. The GM ad didn't otherwise deserve it.

Wonder how many workers the robot replaced are feeling the exact same way.

This GM ad is one of the best CG based commercials I have ever seen. I laughed & cried.

Well Done!

This was one of the favorites of our group. The payoff was a little lame - the copy more than the idea - but everyone identified with the sad little robot. Not quite Pixar, but not bad at all.

Wow. I'm sure all the people recently laid off by GM really appreciated that spot. Surprisingly bad taste.

I imagine that this commercial is a lot funnier and a lot less disgusting if you haven't lived the reality of lay offs and suicides and domestic violence in the wake of GM downsizing for decades. GM has proven themselves to be even more callous and inhuman than I already expected.

I guess in other places, this is a commercial that stirs hearts and has a cute surprise ending. Here in Michigan, it's a cruel reality and not a lick funny.

This is a disgusting, offensive commercial to those of us that have had a suicide in our family. It just shows how callous some of our ad generating people are. What's next? A robot with breast cancer, or aids or in a hurricane? My younger brother ended his life in his GM truck. suicide is a major problem in the united states and every 16 minutes someone dies by suicide. there is more than one attempt per minute per day.
please see afsp.org for more information about this issue that needs to come to light. I have walked 20 miles overnight, two years in a row to help raise funds to prevent more suicide.the highest demographic for those that take their life is males over 65.It is the 2nd leading cause of death among college age young adults. What is the problem with GM?
