Horizon Air Convinces Sloggers The Slog Is Not the Best Way to Travel

the_slog.jpg

After spending some time on Horizon Air's The Slog, a site created by WONGDOODY which highlights the landmarks along the 200 mile stretch of Interstate 5 between Seattle and Portland - in order to convince us to fly the 200 miles instead of drive - we actually want to take the 200 mile drive just to see all the cool stuff the site highlights. OK, so it's not all cool, the road sucks and the rest stop bathrooms are disgusting. But the way WONGDOODY crafted the site - a collection of videos highlight each of "the slog's" oddities and frustrations Old West-style - lends a certain attraction to the road.

In addition to the site, the campaign also includes print, radio and a branded truck with a museum-like diorama of the road that makes stops along the highway. Brochures will also be handed out to travelers on the road convincing them Horizon Air is really the way to go. In all, it's one of the best airline campaigns we've ever seen.

Let's see. Queen Anne to Downtown Portland is two hours and change on 5. Cost in gas is about $12.

Flyng is $99. Plus parking at the airport. Plus you take half an hour to get to the airport. Take at least 30 minutes in ticketing and security. Wait for the flight. Take the flight. Deplane. Get to the transport area and, what, take a cab to downtown Portland.

You'll spend 3.5 to 4 hours minimum accomplishing this feat. You'll spend about $100 more minimum going just one way.

Then you reverse the process to get back.

Sorry cute The Slog website but NOT SOLD.

I'll take traffic over Homeland Security and airport moments anytime. Plus, I'll have enough money left over for a hotel.

Seattle to Portland is two hours and change? Hyundais do not go that fast, sir.

I love this campaign, and I now hate Horizon a lot less. God bless Horizon for letting this get produced. And God Bless WongDoody for bustin' it out for (I'm assuming) pennies.
