Budweiser Clydesdale Dalmatian Spot Wins USA Today Ad Meter Poll

budweiser_dalmation.jpg

That bastion of scientific accuracy otherwise known as the USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter has crowned Budweiser's Clydesdale Dalmatian commercial the highest scoring ad.

We don't disagree but are saddened Coke's It's Mine beautiful balloon ballet didn't take top spot. It did, however, place 7th which is pretty good.

Rounding out the top 10 were FedEx's Pigeons, Bridgestone's Critters, Doritos Rat (an ad from last year, no less), Bud Light's Fire Breather, Bud Light's Wine and Cheese, Diet Pepsi Max's head-bobbing Nod, Planter's uni-brow woman (WTF?), Tide to Go and Sobe Life Water's Naomi Campbell/Dancing Lizards.

That last one was much-maligned as crap. It just goes to show the ad industry has no idea how people will react to its work. Though the poll isn't wrong when it comes to naming the Doritos music contest spot the worst. Some people likely didn't even realize that was an ad but rather thought it was part of the show.

Also scoring poorly were Under Armour's fascist-toned Big E, GMC's Yukon spot, the White House drug ad, the Salesgenie ads, the CareerBuilder ads (watch out Wieden + Kennedy, you may be getting fired this week), GoDaddy's idiocy, Ice Breakers' Carmen Elektra stupidity and, surprisingly, Audi's Godfather ad.

Nothing beats the Rocky effect. Not even Charlie Brown. *somber head shake*

I thought the Audi Godfather ad was terrific. Also enjoyed the two e-Trade baby spots.

Thought the Bud Light ads were mediocre in general.

So there.

Steve

Hate to say I told you so...but I told you so :) The Audi spot sucked because the build up took too long, people had no idea what the ad was about, nor why they should care, and it was a borrowed re-used concept.

As for W+K; no surprise here...the Coke work was outstanding. The Career Builder ad, WTF? Monkeys sure look pretty good about now.

The most refreshing thing about the ads...no shitty contrived CPB stuff a la Whopperettes.

Yeah...how about those AdMeter rankings now, CareerBuilder?

I'm sick and tired of Bud thinking we give a rats ass about their stupid Clydesdales....Hello?! Get over yourself

Obviously we do give a rats ass about the Clydesdales,Cas given their recurrent vote of positivity each year. Out side of the ad business, most people love a heartwarming success story. Inside the ad business, we are way too jaded to admit that.

Your right about being jaded.

The concept, music and overall execution of the spot is like eating pancakes with syrup. Now...if you were going to tell me I should try pancakes with yogurt or something completely off the wall. Then we might have something

cas,

how about pancakes with clydesdales road apples?

The nice thing about the Clydesdale spot is that is appeals to everyone. Women love it because it's adorable. Guys like it because of the rocky theme. Hell even kids like it.

Cathy, I think YOU'RE awesome. I love your enthusiasm. That, and the fact that you and the rest of America gets a boner over a bunch of horses headed for the glue factory.

We didn't even have to make 'em talk (I'm saving that script for next year!).
