Lizards, Naomi Campbel Get Thrillicious For Sobe Life Water

sobe_lizards_1.jpg

We saw the teaser. We saw the lizard telling his parents he'd be staring in a Super Bowl commercial with Naomi Campbell. Well, this is the result and we like it a lot. We like the effects, the production value, the creativity, the interaction between Naomi and the lizards. Oh, and then there's Michael Jackson's Thriller, a reminder he once was almost normal. Nice job, BBDO. See the commercial here.

Did anyone else see one of the lizards fart during the Thriller dance?
Fiery, smokey farts.

This ad did it for me: I give up on SoBe.

They used to be cool, but then they started copying vitamin water. Now they come out and steal an idea that's been popular on you tube, put a pretty face in their ad, and some cartoon stupidity.

SoBe's lost touch with what people liked about them in the beginning.

Why do "we" like this? What does this gratuitous Geico ad have anything to do with water? (oh, sorry, only the aging model has the british accent in this spot. The salmonella-ridden pitchmen just speak with their rear ends)

I'm sorry that the creative team had to work on herb water instead of pepsi or Axe. But this is chamomile water. It has vitamins. And at first swig it will disappoint every one who was expecting anything else.

Good buzz, wrong product. Fail.

I agree. What do the lizards have to do with the water? If you look at ads for a similar product, like Glaceau, you can tell they know their product and their audience very well. It's as if the ad with lizards was dialed in from God knows where.

I will stick with the "original" Glaceau. I'm tired "copy cats". More and more of SoBe lacks imagination.

I can't believe they got that pretentious, self-righteous, and egotistical Naomi Cambell for this ad. Shouldn't she be promoting cell phones by throwing them at people's heads?

Naomi Cambell I can care less about. But how about putting money in Wacko Jacko's pocket. I think Pepsi probably owed him something for burning his hair way back.

I think the worst part about this commercial is that they did not hire a real DANCER. Naomi is beautiful, but a dancer she is not. If they really wanted to use Naomi, instead of an equally beautiful professional dancer, let her do what she does best: look pretty and walk. Period.

Her moves were amateurish verging on BAD and distracted from the Thriller dance sequence. You'd think a company spending this much money on advertising would have realized that if you want to replicate one of the most famous dance routines of all time, you do not hire someone with zero dance training. Ugh.
