Why Post Flyers When There are So Many to Vandalize?

goldfrapp-blacklipps.jpg

Okay, we love this. Instead of posting flyers for its East Village concert (which takes place either last night or right now), Black Lips (or its fans?) used ads around town to spread the word.

Black lips were drawn across the faces of models and actors, alongside the concert place and time: 3/10/08 and/or 3/11/08, Bowery Ballroom. See more at Guerilla Communication.

Black Lips' MySpace confirms the concert takes place on the 11th, not the 10th. Oh but wait, Copyranter insists it's Monday the 10th.

Well, this is guerrilla so shit happens. Either way, you missed it. (Bummer.)

Spitzer Scandal Spun to Promote Virgin Mobile

spitzer-client-9.jpg

"I'm tired of being treated like a number..." laments NY Governor Eliot Spitzer in this print ad for Virgin Mobile in Canada.

The copy goes on to read "At Virgin Mobile, you're more than just a number. When you call us we'll treat you like a person, not a client. Whether you're #9 or #900, you'll get hooked up with somebody who'll finally treat you just how you want to be treated."

How very wicked. But revelations of Spitzer's place in the queue (Client #9) at a busted prostitution service come at an opportune time for Virgin Mobile, which only revealed its preoccupation with American politics this month.

Just another instance of Virgin behaving badly.

SXSW Gets GEICO Caveman Down with His Bad Self

marty-caveman.jpg

SXSW may not be all about advertising, but ad culture definitely spices up the debauched buffet.

At a launch party for GEICO's "I Heart Cavemen" campaign (paleolithic Facebook meets Match.com), Marty the Caveman made a well-documented cameo.

When last we saw the caveman at a party, he was all brooding solo-boy. But give him time to love the limelight, and even early man can learn to schmooze proper.

iStrategyLabs -- responsible for the "I Heart Caveman" campaign and party -- has more on the caveman's SXSW antics. Stealing Facebook groupies? Baring soul to iJustine? Picking fights? Marty was busy.

SocialThing! the New Social Thing

social_thing.jpg

At SXSW, SocialThing! is making its debut. SocialThing! is a social media aggregator of sorts which allows those who use social media sites such as Flickr, Twitter, Facebook and others to pull together all the individual information from those various sites into one site that presents the user with a merged stream. Changes and additions to the user's individual sites can be made directly from SocialThing! which, ultimately, will work with the soon to be adopted OLAP protocol which allows a person to have one identity that can be used across multiple sites.

Of course, it's mobile enabled and will soon have browser plug in capabilities as well as it's own set of RSS feeds for users to do with what they please.

Cartoon Network Goes Viral!

cartoon-network-viral.JPG

...in true Cartoon Network style: with robots. The game was put together by agency Ralph and promotes CN's Robotboy. Your job is to help test Professor Moshimo's robots. High-ranking "robo-guardians" win prizes like posters and roboreptiles.

Not especially awe-inducing. Where's the fire, Cartoon Network?

Mr. T Grows -- Er, Gets -- Some Nuts for Snickers

snickers-mr-t.jpg

And he wants us to get some, too. O_O

Eh. Post-ElfYourself, and after Mr. T flaked for Bring Back the A-Team's reunion party, we fail to feel the oomph.

Put together by Campbell-Ewald.

One Reason Why the 'Net is No Place for Hobbits

lotr-shortcut.jpg

Imagine if the characters of Lord of the Rings had internet, mobile phones and ... Yahoo Messenger and Mail?

The journey would probably look a lot like this video by Pod Design, Lexington for Yahoo. More hack-jobs of your favourite films to come, probably with a similar premise, hopefully funnier. In any case, it's a neat way to showcase Y! chat's many merits. You know: spinning smileys, green fonts... bleh.

CHOCOLATE THE RAINBOW! And Fight Pinata Abuse

pinata-man.jpg

This new spot for chocolate Skittles is KICK-ASS. The pinata co-worker idea? Genius. We only loved it more when we realized the guy was made of crepe-paper, not leprosy.

The agency responsible (see all credits): TBWA\ and production company MJZ, our new favourite friends. Because anybody who can come up with a slogan like "CHOCOLATE THE RAINBOW! Taste the rainbow" is a keeper ... and probably a regular contributor to 4chan.
