Galaxy92 Decries Modern Dogmas ... Well, Except for the Ones it Made Last Year

NIPTUCKISM.jpg

Greek station Galaxy 92 made a resonant impression on us in 2007 with "DOGMA," a print campaign where dictators proclaim the merits of music.

But that was then. Galaxy's gone 180 on our asses. "Stop Modern Dogmas," its current ads demand -- in little red buttons! -- over images of brassy, but vapid, constructs of modern worship:

o Celebritism
o Nip Tuckism (at left)

Slogan: "All music. No dogma." No word on how Galaxy92 feels about the ones it invented last year. I imagine they're exempt from scorn -- or else they did very, very poorly amongst the public.

"Stop Modern Dogmas" was put together by Lowe, Athens, the creators of "DOGMA."

Missy Elliott, Adidas Bring R-E-S-P-E-C-T Back to Fashion

missy-elliott-adidas.jpg

With help from Adidas, Missy Elliott has launched Respect M.E. Originals, a clothing line she plans to promote through mEgo.com's social avatars and widgets.

She's also picking five girls to serve as global brand ambassadors for Respect M.E.'s 2009 tour. Would-be models must register an mEgo account.

Respect M.E.'s promotional imagery brings Gwen Stefani to mind. She also launched a clothing line -- L.A.M.B. -- and lolled all over a gilded throne to promote it on an album of the same name. Guess that's the thing to do when you're a diva. But hey. If I were 15, I'd sooner play "brand ambassador" for Missy than for Macy's.

Bell Bails, a52 Honored, Obama Fights Smears, Tots Tattoo, and MTLB Beats Down Bad PRs

tot-tats.jpg

- Global marketing guy Jeff Bell is leaving Microsoft. He's held his post since 2006.

- a52, which produced the visual effects for that Monster.com spot with the people on the rails, won some love at the Association of Independent Commercial Producer's 17th Annual Show. This is the 11th year its work was recognized by the AICP. To celebrate, it created a YouTube chronology of all the a52 spots that have been honored by the Show. Watch them.

- Obama for America has launched an online news site to fight the smears against his name.

- Make the Logo Bigger created guidelines for the ideal PR. If you don't meet 'em, you're not just getting trashed; you'll be marked as SPAM.

- Not ad-related, but hey: here is a rhinoplasty tutorial. After a few slides, even YOU could do it! Well, maybe she could.

- Speaking of tattooing tots, here are some tattoos for tots. Prepare them early on for their future as this guy. (That tribal-inspired tattoo actually contains the coordinates for $50K and keys to a Volvo.)

Theatre Ticket Site Brings Broadway to You!

airport-musical.jpg

Did you ever watch the musical episode of Buffy? The one where people randomly leap into choreographed song-and-dance, betraying all their innermost thoughts and secrets, before bursting into flames?

This is kind of like that. Except there aren't any random combustion deaths, and bystanders are offered 50 percent off theatre tickets at LastMinute.com.

Master Casters Bring Extreme Element to Fishing

master-casters.jpg

Here's something I've never seen before. For client Take Me Fishing, Colle + McVoy launched the Mastercasters, a site where you can watch some intense-looking guys do stuff like hit clay pigeons with their lures. Oh, and here's one where a dude shoots pyramids of empty cans by casting at them.

If master casting is the recreational activity for you (and how could it not be?), absorb some anglers' legacy and explore the available fishing and boating resources. Oh, I think I saw a Fishopedia somewhere.

Facebook Profiles (And Their Friends) Auctioned on eBay

facebook_house.jpg

It's unclear whether or not this is a joke but someone has placed ten Facebook profiles for sale on eBaby. The profiles, created by the same person but reflective of ten different types of people, are said to each have a minimum of 200 friends. Each profile was then actively integrated into the Facebook community through forums, events, networks, groups and all the other spider legs Facebook has to offer.

The seller is offering control of these profiles to marketers, writing, "Under the right conditions and for a fair price you will receive full control of these personas, as well as associated emails."

Crest Makes Even Playground Destruction Seem Pleasant

crest_bulldozer.jpg

Hmm. Nothing like a good tube of Crest to gloss over the travesty of modernization at the cost of childhood play. Yes, Crest can, in fact, make even the destruction of a playground in favor of a power plant seem, well, pleasant.

Here's another. This one makes even lice seem like a good thing.

Creative Circus Students Win Future Lions, Host Bake Sales to Fund Travel

creative_circus_future_lions.jpg

What's a group of poor, starving Creative Circus students to do when they find out they've just won Cannes Future Lions and really, really need to get to France by Monday? They host a bake sale, of course, selling cookies for $500 a pop.

So if there are any altruistic types out there with a spare $6,000 or so laying around to help these winners make their way to Cannes, get in touch with them here. Oh, and if you have any cash left over after than, feel free to send the Adrants crew as well.

Microsoft Angles for the Favor of Procrastinators

start-procrastinating.jpg

To promote its MSN toolbar -- "Jet fuel for procrastinators!" -- Microsoft launched Start Procrastinating. You can either upload videos of yourself, flicking rubber bands around while putting off your creative brief, or watch three really stupid videos of a couple of dudes surf balling, folding shirts and sharpshooting.

Actually, the surf balling video's all right.

Start Procrastinating's no Clearification, which was appealing but a promotional flop for Microsoft. And avid procrastinators download StumbleUpon, not MSN. Sorry, champs.

Speaking of StumbleUpon, look what it found me! Free range workers. Yum.

Cannes Fringe is Back!

cannes_fringe_logo.jpg

If you're looking for...um...less traditional coverage of next week's Cannes Festival, Cannes Fringe, which offered up all manner of video oddity last year is back to provide us even more goodies this year. Cannes Fringe will cover the Leo Burnett Party, Shots Party and Rushes BBQ and will have interviews with people from Coca Cola, the judge of the Cannes Lions Titanium award and all kinds or party and awards coverage.

Again, I wish I was there but some year, no doubt, it will happen. For now, there's Cannes Fringe.

Panasonic Gives Us Worldwide Olympic Wave

ScreenShot317.jpg

Oh look. You can do the virtual wave courtesy of Panasonic as if you were going to be at the Beijing Olympics this summer. Called the World Wide Wave, the site (accessed by clicking World Wide Wave on the lower left hand corner of the Panasonic site) lets people upload their image and become part of a virtual crowd wave.

It's consumer-generated media, you know, according to Hisato Tsugita from Panasonic's corporate communications department. Yea. CGM. It's sweeping the globe like an Al Gore-sensationalized ozone layer hole. Who knew?

McCain Gets Hulking Girl to Do Battle With Obama Girl

mccain_girl.jpg

The latest from Barely Political, home of Obama Girl, is The Incredible McCain Girl, a poor girl who gets angry...like McCain, apparently does, and does battle with Obama Girl who tries to hottie-dance, unsuccessfully, against MCain Girl's "hulking" presence. Catch it this summer at a theater near you. Or here on YouTube.

Life Changing Box For Sharp Aquos TV?

life_changing_box.jpg

The promise of the extraordinary. The surprise of something new. The power to bring change. It's... It's... It's... Life Changing Box, a Lowe-created site and Facebook game that involves a box, co-ordinated game play and prizes. Beginning today and running for a month, no one's saying who it's for right now so, if you care, you're just going to have to play the game and wait.

It's all fairly intricate but here are some overview points from the release:

  • There are 10 boxes total in the game
  • To gain possession of a box, users use a currency called a Touch
  • All players get 24 "Touches" per day
  • Each Touch enters the player into a Round
  • At the beginning of each Round, the box will randomly jump to one of the players who entered that Round
  • The player given the box holds it for the entirety of the Round, which lasts between 30 minutes and 8 hours, randomly decided by the application
  • If the box doesn't open in a Round for the player, a new Round will begin and everyone must Touch the box again to participate
  • 20 prizes will be awarded with values ranging from $400 to $14,000
  • If you invite a friend to the application and they win, you win a duplicate prize

Let's hope it is actually life changing and not some lame promotion for some lame brand. All the details are here, the box is here and the game is here.
