Wool the New Billboard Ingredient

sky7_kitted_billboard.jpg

So there's been billboards created out of lettuce, peaches and beer bottles. Why not create a billboard that is hand knitted? That's what Cake did for Sky and the Women's Institute which have joined forces to choose one of the Women's Institute's 200,000 women to become the W-Icon.

The board was made from 133 miles of of wool and took 250 hours to complete

That Dog Really, Really Likes That Leg

pet_hump.jpg

OK so there's nothing new about a horny dog humping a person's leg. Happens all the time. In fact, embarrassingly, it happened in the middle of a Cub Scout den meeting years ago. I never lived that one down. Anyway, this humping dog comes courtesy of Erwin-Penland for the Greenville Humane Society in South Carolina. It's goal is to urge pet owners to spay and neuter their furry one under the heading, Sips for Snips.Snips??? That's just painful!

From Cradle to Grave, Independence Blue Cross Wants Your Business

philadelphiagrowth.jpg

CEO Joseph Frick of Independence Blue Cross, the biggest health insurance provider in Philadelphia, used his recent colon cancer diagnosis to fuel this ad campaign by Tierney Communications.

The height chart at left lends a practical, and sort of charming, picture of how needs change as the mortal coil unravels. (Nagging question: why is 5'9," "Mammogram Reminders," followed by 6'1," "Senior Fitness Programs"? I thought people shrink when they get old? Is Independence just that good?)

Tagline: "Just a few ways we're here for you every step of the way" -- a little clumsy, but it gets the idea across.

That Wii Fit Video? Hot But Not A Nintendo Marketing Effort

girlfriend_wii_fit.jpg

So a guy films his girlfriend wearing nothing but a t-shirt and underwear tantalizingly gyrating her hips while playing Wii Fit and, poof, instant YouTube stardom. Nope, It's not a marketing stunt from Wii but it did come from a guy in advertising, Giovanny Gutierrez, director of interactive marketing at Miami's Tinsley Advertising. And, and, and...his girlfriend, Lauren, also works in the business. Neither, however, for Nintendo in any capacity.

Yawn. Hot Asses, Big Boobs Promote...Wait, Whoa! What Was That?

football_your_way.jpg

In some sort of protest against the current state of football TV rights, Burger King has launched Football Your Way with, of course, hot women in cropped tops and shorts shorts getting camera love in a video with a bit of a surprise ending. Oh, and apparently, it's to promote the Angus 6 Pack as well but the video was a bit too distracting to come to that realization immediately.

Skydivers to Spell 'Honda' On Live Commercial Break

HondaAd460.jpg

Tonight, at 8:10PM on London's Channel 4, 19 skydivers will spend three minutes and 20 seconds attempting to spell out the word Honda in Britain's first live commercial. part of Honda's ongoing skydiving campaign, the ad will appear during the reality show Come Dine With Me and, as Honda Manager of Customer Communications said, "If it works, people will know who it's for. If it doesn't, they won't." Brave simplicity. Nice.

Here's hoping all 19 parachutes open successfully after the crew finishes its spelling exercise. Damn, it's almost that time there right now! Someone send us the video!

Here's the video.

Stand Up to Cancer Gets 'We Are the World' Celebu-Treatment

psa_caffleck.jpg

Not usually a fan of weepy PSA's for cancer, this one from non-profit Stand Up to Cancer directed by David Fincher and voiced by Sydney Poitier caught my attention if only to make sure I could pick out all the celebrities that pop up in the ad. Sydney Poitier, Christy Turlington, Susan Sarandon, NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Morgan Freeman, Lance Armstrong, Keanu Reeves, Tobey Maguire, Casey Affleck, and Jodie Foster are in there. Can you spot more?

Crocs Alligator Bites Tail of Shark That Jumped It, Succeeds

crocs_scream.jpg

The beauty, and success, of Crocs shoes (no, we never owned a pair, thank God) came mostly from word of mouth and the desire to be cool because you wore strange looking shoes that squeaked. It's sort of like the Flip Video camera which used to be packaged in those impossible-to-open, hermetically sealed plastic packages that hung from hooks in Wal-Mart until it experienced a Web 2.0, "Must. Vlog. That.", iJustine-fueled rebirth.

Deep Focus CEO Auctions Off Experimental Twitter Sponsorship

ian_schafer_twitter.jpg

Deep Focus CEO and avid Twitter user Ian Schafer is, as an experiment, auctioning off sponsorship of his Twitter profile and feed. The sponsorship will consist of a branded background image and the replacement of his icon with an image of the brand's choice.

Shafer has set the starting bid at $400. Let's do some math. $400 for one month. Schafer has 377 followers. He tweets 8-10 times per day. If we assume those days to be weekdays, that's about 200 tweets per month (10 tweets X 20 days). Using old-school metrics, the sponsorship will deliver 3,770 impression per day or 75,400 per month. Matching that to the $400 cost nets a CPM of $5.31.
