BldBMWDayCeiling72.jpg

This weekend hoping to enlist PGA Tour golfers as brand ambassadors, BMW of North America, with help from Raleigh-based agency Baldwin& (no, that's not a typo), will affix posters above the beds in the Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, IN that show the front grill and logo of the BMW M.

When golfers turn out the lights for the night, the vehicle's headlights will glow and a headline will appear. It reads, "Don't count sheep. Count RPMs" followed by copy which reads, "To reserve your spot at the BMW M driving experience, visit the BMW hospitality concierge."

Teen Pregnancy Campaign Leaves Fear Tactics Behind

MySelfMyHealth.jpg

Eschewing fear tactics, Minneapolis marketing agency Haberman just launched Myself, My Health, a campaign for Hennepin County, MN, to promote the use of sexual health clinics by youth and young adults, particularly among audiences with higher prevalence of unplanned pregnancy.

To aid in the creation of the campaign, the agency formed a youth leadership board to give input which led to a more empowering approach to teen pregnancy prevention by emphasizing personal responsibility and knowledge.

A welcome change from Robotripping and Montana Meth.

Spotify Track List Becomes Art Exhibit Invitation

Bonnierskonsthall_more_than_sound.jpg

To promote an upcoming sound art and music installation exhibit, Bonniers Konsthall, a contemporary art gallery in Stockholm, created, with help from DDB Stockholm, a Spotify track list that became the invitation to a new exhibit, More Than Sound.

A target group of art critics and bloggers were emailed a personalized link to the track list that contained the invitation (made up by the track titles) and music, created by experimental music producer Hans Berg, which consisted of music samples from the exhibit.

Inventive.

Why Brands Should Care About Affiliate Program Management

am_days.jpg

Affiliate Management Days, a conference held October 9-10 in Ft. Lauderdale, will educate brands on how they can create and manage a successful affiliate program. Affiliate program management, the focus of Affiliate Management Days, is a subset of the broader affiliate marketing segment (covered by Affiliate Summit) which includes merchants (brands) looking to partner with affiliates (individual marketers who promote merchant products) and networks (like ad networks, connectors between merchants/brands and affiliates/sites) as well as the affiliate managers who manage affiliate programs for brands.

Geno Prussakov is founder of Affiliate Management Days (use this link for 10 percent off the conference) and we asked him to help us understand affiliate program management and how it fits into a brand's broader marketing strategy.

Agency Objectifies Account Executive to Attract New Business

wanna_date_derek.jpg

Southern California-based Skiver Advertising has launched a tongue-in-cheek (or cheesy, take your pick) new business effort called "Wanna Date Derek?"

The campaign, which features 28-year-old (though in the video he says 20) account executive Derek Hall, began with a billboard and extends to a website on which Derek touts his attributes. The campaign also includes a Twitter account (@WannaDateDerek) on which the 6'1" Derek is described as "vivacious, handsome, smart, ripped" and "a kind-hearted soul."

iphone_5_concept_video_aatma_studio.jpg

As we get closer and closer to the September 12 launch of the iPhone 5 and fanboy fanaticism runs amok, the rumors regarding the new phone's features have reached fever pitch. Aatma Studios, which routinely releases predictions for yet to be released Apple products is out with very Jerry Bruckheimer-ish movie trailer-style video that celebrates some of the expected (and only dreamed for) features everyone hopes to see on September 12.

This one is worth watching full screen with the volume turned way up.

Environmental Concern Gets 80,000 to Skip Behavior, Not Ad

skip_behavior_not_ad.jpg

Chili-based environmental concern Sodimac et La Casa Eco has made brilliant use of YouTube's newish ad skipping feature. A two minute video illustrates how the entity incorporated the ad skipping feature into their creative by adding a Skip This Behavior button which would appear just above and at the same moment as the Skip Ad button would appear.

Messaging would ask viewers whether they wanted to skip a certain behavior (using too much water, for example) or skip the ad. It worked. In one week, 80,000 people clicked the Skip This Behavior button.

PSAs Continue Robotripping Puke-Fest

josh_robotrip.jpg

In May, Partnership for a Drug Free America CPHA have teamed to create a cookie tossing pukefest aimed at calling attention to Robotripping, the overuse of cough medicine to get a high or sorts. And yes, poor Robitussin is the genesis of the term robotripping.

Well the two entities are at it again with three new Tribal DDB San Francisco-created pukefests, one of which take the choose your own adventure direction. But, rest assured, the puke-fest approach is still central to the campaign.

And apparently, people like to watch people puke because a couple of the videos are getting decent view counts.
