Although he is caught in a vortex of steroid allegations, family problems and knee operations that could shelve him for a good portion of the season, Barry Bonds remains a central component of the San Francisco Giants' marketing campaign for 2005, team officials said Thursday.

"Running away from, or distancing ourselves from, Barry Bonds is not in our game plan,'' Larry Baer, the Giants' executive vice president and chief operating officer, said. "There is a lot of noise in Barry's life right now. This organization is not rushing to any judgment.''
