Wendy's Uses 'Coming of Age' Footage to Promote Value Meal

wendys_bbv.jpg

While it seems most commenters don't like it, a new video on YouTube takes old TV show footage (or at least we think that's what it is) and turns it into a a voiced over Wendy's commercial which points to BBV99, a site with a few good goofs that continues the mission of promoting Wendy's 99 cent Better Value Meal. The site was created by MRM Worldwide. The site is also being promoted with banners on YouTube and elswhere.

Strawberry Frog Makes James Bond Heineken Commercial

kevin_mckeon.jpg

It's common knowledge that everyone in advertising would rather be shooting a movie than making boring ads that appear on the small screen so it is without surprise Strawberry Frog is hyped about its new Heineken commercial which was shot on location during the filming of the the next James Bond film., Casino Royale. A YouTube video takes a behind the scenes look at the very normal and un-Agency.com-like approach Strawberry Frog took for the creation of the commercial. Actors are featured. Set designers and assistant directors are interviewed. Strawberry Frog Head Creative Dude Kevin McKeon waxes eloquently about th genesis of the project. Come on. Before you say anything, you know you wish you were in Kevin's shoes.

Video Offers Insight Into World of YouTubers

youtubers.jpg

If you've ever wondered why anyone would sit in front of a webcam, talk randomly about almost nothing and then upload it to YouTube for all to see, dive deep into the world of social media with this video about the whole trend. Sure, there's a bunch of wackos out there and most of the stuff is irrelevant but that's not the point. The point is, styles of personal conversation are changing and there's no going back. I once had an art director ask me to stop sending him emails because the notification of arriving emails distracted him from his work. Can you imagine a world without email? Perhaps there will be a day when we can't imagine a world without this new form of video communication.

Coke Wakes Up, Smells Social Media

coke_mentos_ii.jpg

After having dissed the whole Diet Coke Mentos geyser thing saying the "craziness with Mentos doesn't fit with the brand personality" then giving in and quickly implementing a lame contest, Coke is now back in full force with Poetry in Motion, a video contest fronted by the very people Coke dissed in the first place, Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz, creators of one of the craziest Diet Coke/Mentos geyser videos. The two now appear in a video urging people to submit videos and teasing us with the fact the pair will release their latest video October 30, sure to be even more massive than their original geyser work

PGM Artists Parodies YouTube With PhilTube

philtube.jpg

Fans of YouTube may not have to worry about their baby getting sucked up into the Google void and corporatized because now we have PhilTube. Some dude named Phil has created a YouTube look alike and has videos up that poke fun at popular videos such as the Star Wars Kid and LonelyGirl15. Of course, this isn't the next YouTube at all. It's the creation of Phil McIntyre to parody YouTube, poke fun at social media and to promote PGM Artists, his company that represents production companies to agencies and media companies.

If you didn't know who Phil McIntyre or PGM were, you'd have to do a bit of digging to see what PhilTube is all about but as promotions go, we applaud it. There's no fist bumping here - although, perhaps PhilTube should spoof the Agency.com video - and the content is amusing enough. We're told Hart+Larsson is behind he creative on this one.

Geico Caveman Battles News Anchors For Respect

geico_interview.jpg

Bill Green points us to yet another entry in the increasingly popular Geico Caveman saga. In this latest commercial, our caveman friend is subjected to unfeeling, uncaring news anchors who frustrate the poor guy even further. He's got a nice rant in the middle of the spot though. Bill also tells us there's another clip that appears to be a movie trailer for the campaign. We don't know if these will sell any insurance but we cerainly are entertained by them.

Luggage Tagged, Streets Teamed, Coke Fried, FIFA Viraled

scott_luggagetags1.jpg

- If you travel a lot and you're bored with your bland luggage tags or you don't have any at all, you might want to check out some new tags that are decidedly more colorful than your standard, bland tags.

- Mango Moose Media in Mississauga Ontario has launched StreetTeams, a service that makes it easy for media buyers to "buy" street teams just like they buy other media.

- As if Coke wasn't already unhealthy enough, it's now a frying agent for any thing from bananas, to twinkies to cookies to pickles.

- RSS reader Newsgator has added Google AdWords to it's pages. Launched Friday, it's in test phase which will continue into next week.

- Not that this is is indicative of any role they may have played in their clients' successes but BBDO's work was the most viewed work on AdForum in the third quarter.

- Here's a collection of videos Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam worked on as part of their work for the Electronic Artists' game FIFA 07.

Mazda Celebrates Hard Top's Twelve Second Erection Time

mazda_hard_top.jpg

While there might be some situations in which it's perfectly acceptable to impress one's girlfriend by saying, "Babe, this thing gets hard in 12 seconds," one might want to choose one's words a bit differently when explaining to a non-girlfriend the hard top of one's new Mazda MX-5 opens in 12 seconds. That concern didn't seem to bother Mazda Europe, it's agency JWT-Dusseldorf nor Maverick Media, the company that created three videos touting the 12 second closing time of the car's convertible hard top.

The campaign, called 12 Second Thriller consists of videos (with agonizingly slow load times), posters, wallpaper and tools to create your own non-sensical 12 second trailer. While the speed of up and down times may be fun to celebrate, it's the lasting durability that counts most.

Kids Say 'No Stank You' in Anti-Smoking Campaign

no_stank_you.jpg

"You Stank!" Or rather, "No Stank You!" is the rallying cry in a Washington State Health Department ant-smoking campaign that focuses on the negative social and cosmetic aspects of smoking. With lots of weird videos, interviews, TV spots, radio spots and a huge collection of downloadable, spreadable messages, the campaign is way more fun that the TRUTH campaign by far. Scare tactics ain't everything my friends. This one works.

Presidents And Mermaids Rock For Windows Live Expo

wexley_mermaids.jpg

That agency with the strange name - Wexley School for Girls - has come up with an interesting promotion for Microsoft's Windows Live Expo.Through a partnership with the band Presidents of the USA and MercyCorps, the program will also raise money for various global communities. The Presidents have created a new video based on their new song, "Zero Friction," with the help of Windows Live Expo. Every item featured in the video will be available on Live Expo for sale. All proceeds from the sales will benefit MercyCorps. Neat.

Random note. The mermaids in the middle of the video and pictured here work at Wexley School for Girls. Kinda makes us want to work there too.
