Contextual Crack Aligns Sony With Drug Rehab
With contextual advertising everywhere, even in RSS feeds, one has to wonder when an advertiser will get sick of bad associations and simply go back to good old demographic, phychographic, human-controlled targeting. Here's what I don't get: Google says, in their own ToS, that you can't serve Google Ads on your illicit-drug- or paraphernalia-related website, but they serve drug-related ads to sites that aren't. It's hard to craft a logical, consistent line of reasoning that doesn't make Google appear to be massive hypocrites. Then again, since the computer makes all those decisions, there must be a consistent, irrational and illogical process behind it all.
