Toronto to Get It's Own Times Square Ad Monstrosity
Looking like a Times Square wannabe, this design for a new building, the Metropolis, to be built at Younge-Dundas Square, a tourist mall, in Toronto is causing big debate among Canadians in the area. No marketer has yet lodged a complaint.

As a young Canadian West-Coaster, I thought I WAS in Times Square the first time I was at Yonge and Dundas.
Does it seem odd that the artist's conception drawing would be so heavily populated with ads? Almost as if they want to cause trouble??

I'm scared. Isn't it enough that we are inundated with ads everywhere we go? Now they have to make this giant larger than life atrocity. As a marketer, it does kind of bug me that we are trying to make our scenery as cluttered as possible and rely on frequency over depth of message.

Also at the fact that we are relying on frequency rather than the depth of the message.

I was discussing this with a few people the other day - on the one hand all those advertisements are somehow symbolic of a successful, prominent, weathly city, but on the other hand, it's just so...blech. Would New York be New York without all those ads? I dunno, I'm inclined to think that if there was all of a sudden legislation which outlawed billboards (I'm laughing as I type, mind you...) we'd all be weirded out for about a week, then as we got used to it, we'd prefer it.
