OMG! Check Out These Weird VH1 Videos Before They Go Offline!
So we get this email from some dude who said he received an email from a "friend" who wrote fervently, "WTF!!!!!! Have you seen this yet? Someone's lost their fucking mind! Better download them now, before they take them off the server. http://68.178.246.54/test2.html. Um, yea right. They might as well put out a press release saying, "VH1 is promoting its daily news show Best Week Ever with a series of quirky videos to imbue the decidedly odd character of the show." Anyway, hurry up a view them now because (gasp!) they may not stay online for long!!!
UPDATE: In a very encouraging sign, VH1 has owned up and acknowledged to us they could have handled the release of these video is a less "OMG, check this out" manner. There are no hard and fast rules anymore regarding the so called "correct" way to release a promotion. Especially when there's so many bitchy bloggers like us ready jump all over people who are simply trying to figure out how to get their message out in a media landscape that is changing hourly. So go easy on them. We're all learning here. Well, not too easy otherwise there's be no point for this website:-)

Steve, have you been on MySpace lately? I swear every bulletin is along the lines of "OMG! YoU hAvE tO dO tHiS"!
I typically don't respond to bulletins, however if they come true I think I'm doomed to never be loved, be in a relationship, have my dreams come true and my parents might die. At least that's what the bulletins said. ;)

Uhm...so, they're kind of weird, but I've seen weirder, more nonsensical dribble on film school grad reels. Sunshine out his butt is more repetitive than anything, a one-trick pony jumping through the same hoop with different colored scarves around its neck. On the plus side, I found Kabob more dumb fun than insulting of other cultures...by a bit. And "Things I love" was actually wierd. The rest feel like rejected intern projects from MAD TV.
Anyway, it's nice to know you can throw almost anything "outrageous" together and have the internet flapping. Fifteen minutes of fame are now fifteen seconds, with the thought involved becoming as thin as the timeframe is long.
It seems everybody is going for extreme these days. Guess you need the shock, i.e. could this be real so people could send out the links to their friends.. Personally it seems pointless, and uncreative. That's my 2 cents..

Did a quick whois search on the IP and it looks like the site belongs to GoDaddy.com
Lame. Feels to me like someone who was involved in making these tipped you off to get attention. Because they're not very good. At all.
Blatant attempt at viral buzz -- thanks for playing into their hands!
Aren't viral campaigns supposed to be funny and/or amusing?
I wouldn't accuse AdRants of playing into the hands of lame viral attempts (Atky2000). You checked it out, add one more unique visitor to their stats.
Their method of spreading this is the lamest part of the whole thing, in my opinion. Who really goes for the breathless, super-hot rumor thing anymore?
Exactly my point here, Pat. Thanks for enlightening the unenlightened:-)
wat?
So, how much did VH1 pay you to participate in this debacle? You are being too easy on them. You must have been paid off.

Nothing, Calling BS. It was an honest mistake on their part, a welcome mea culpa and a simple conveyance of that information to the public.
Getting called out for a viral video campaign is the new viral video campaign. It's meta.
You're having the best comments ever. There's sunshine coming out of your blog! ;)

But the "click once and get two postings" MovableType thing is a downer.
Geez - those spots are the lamest shit ever! From the amateurish look to the lame-ass content, can't they come up with better shit than that?
Celebrity beatings, sunshine coming out of one's ass, nasty rashes, cum on!
