Linux Geeks Deface Vista Poster

vista_linux.jpg

Never cross a Linux lover. Especially if you're Microsoft touting a new operating system called Vista. Linux lovers eschew Microsoft and many other companies claiming there way of computing life is far better than the rest of the world's which uses Microsoft...oh and Apple too. It seems some Linux lovers don't appreciate Microsoft's recent plastering of the world with its Vista marketing launch and took a blade to one of the campaign's posters cutting the word "Linux" into the board. Vandalism? Consumer Generated Marketing? Geeks on a rampage? You decide.

Oh the passion an operating system can stir! Seems odd that a personal preference in what kind of computer you use can be so defining but of course this isn't new.

Consumer generated marketing? Looks more like vandalism (by definition) but im cool with that.

I hate MS too. ;-)

Harmless vandalism -- provided that the mark-up can be removed without harming the original ad (although I kind of like it on top of the Vista logo)

Let's face it, Linux DOES rock.

I'm weary of the Linux proselytizing. What has Linux done for me lately?

Microsoft sucks, face it. I do respect them because they are able to help stupid people send pictures, shop the internet and the like, but seriously, Windows is basically a childs toy. I have nothing against Microsoft except the fact that they are trying to monopolizing everything and forcing their way... (in America? get real, hint hint). Most people that say that are too afraid to use Linux and have no idea of the power and flexibility it has to offer. If you think Linux users are "punk rockers" then you're wrong. First punk rock was dead a long time ago and in that sense let me say that all Windows fanatics are mentally challenged, close minded and idiotic. Oh and don't care about their future. Windows will never be as good as Linux in the server area b/c Windows spends too much time being pretty and "acting" like it knows what its doing. BS

I don't particularly like the vandalism aspect of this, particularly when Linux or any other competing product is used in the process. I like Linux, but many people would see it as a sign that Linux users have no respect for others' property. Now, when the "Suddenly Everything Clicks" banner was changed to "Suddenly Everything Sucks" - that was cool. It was done well, and didn't paint anybody else in an undesirable light.

Vandalism yes... but hey, Microsoft with the disgustingly huge budget they have for advertising and the money they use to influence public opinion, not only do they "vandalise" in the sense that we can go anywhere or do anything without hearing about Vista, they can afford a bit of white-out or a couple of posters. Respect for freedom of thought, surely isn't part of MS's mission statement.

As for the idiot who says "what has linux done for me", hope you don't use the internet, log onto networks or anything along those lines. That "why I love Microsoft" site you googled up was powered by Linux. The guy who said "all Windows fanatics are mentally challenged, close minded and idiotic" is onto something. The amount of these people getting excited over Vista and flaming people who say otherwise, and trolling on non-MS loving sites is ridiculous. They have money, they don't need fools like you helping them. You just show why we are glad we left.

If Microsoft's O/S's are so great - why is it the company that hosts their site is using a Linux firewall????
