VW Does Forrest Gump
We loved the plain innocence-bordering-on-stupidity of Forrest Gump and Sao Paulo Brazil agency AlmapBBDO has borrowed that notion for a new Volkswagen Golf commercial which highlights the scene in the movie where Forrest decides to run back and forth across the country. This time, he does it in a Golf.

Okay, if you're going to borrow interest, make it good. This spot has absolutely no surprises. It takes the movie, and just incorporates a VW.

Would be cooler if they had done it to promote a new diesel engine or great mileage stats.
Okay, so taking the entire movie into context, if we were to believe that Forrest Gump did actually take the car back and forth across country instead of running, there is one simple question I pose to you.
Why would I want to buy a car that's from 1980 - 1985? (This is the general timeframe where this part of the movie lives.)
The spot is more than Ok. Please don't take out of contest, it was done not for the US but for one of the many countries that love Forrest and do not care for details like when that particular timeframe. Hey, Forrest is almost a myth everywhere and why not use it? Funny one.

Lovely spin on one of my favorite movies...very Volkswagen!
