Sony Ericsson: Be the Star of Your Own YouTube Video!

Because everyone knows that's tough to do.*

Check out Ericsson's Darkside campaign, where you plug your likeness into a pre-made spooky YouTube video.

Brando, the left-of-center agency responsible, even provided one-click ways to "viral it out" via Facebook and email. So, like, wow, you don't have to do jack to get your face on the front of the internets.

*This snide linkback to Nalts, our cewebrity of choice, only illustrates in jest how anybody can become a YouTube star with enough time and effort. The truth is, we love Nalts. Deeply. More than our moms, even.

You know your love filled the void in my heart that my self love just couldn't fill. Does that make me needy?

Speaking of video and ads... 5 top reasons video promotion is recession proof:
1) Entry cost is low. Paying top creators to have fun with your product (and reviewing content before posting) is low risk, low cost, high impact and high reach. Better than boring banners.
2) While stupid media people (sorry was that redundant) will fall back to safe bets, I'd argue nothing is safer than paid search and low-cost video pilots.
3) The age of the bloated microsites and large media spends is behind us! Yey!
4) Agency fees will be compressed, so $250K "hail mary's" based on expensive overpolished viral productions (which get 4,000 views) will be replaced by sponsorship on a creator with an embedded Oprah. When Oprah plugs a book it explodes. When an ad runs during Oprah we forget it immediately.
5) Read Seth Godin's Tribal book. It's about tapping into networks not pushing mass advertising.

My 5 cents.

And you've got to love the beginning of that promo for using "your" instead of "you're." Ugh.

BTW- the whole promo seems to be about how we're supposed to pimp the shit out of this video instead of what we get for going through the trouble.
