Angry Whopper Bites Back.

angry-onion-farmer.jpg

Fast on the heels of its unscrupulous Whopper Virgin campaign (and the melodramatic responses it inspired), Crispin Porter + Bogusky introduce us to Burger King's Angry Whopper.

Infused with jalapenos and onions grown by disgruntled (read: sadistic and utterly unhinged) farmers, this hot-headed burger promises to "bite you back."

Red-faced yet? Go compose an angry-gram, courtesy of the King's darker side.

We like how the disclaimer reads, "Angry-Grams are intended to be humorous and should not be used with an intent to harass." Guess I should start rethinking my wry subject-line combinations of "mother" and "whore."

I like the idea, but the execution is a little rough around the edges. The email that gets sent looks like spam (you can't customize the subject line) and the video that plays has volume issues, so the burger goes from screaming to whispering and back again, and there's not much you can do about it.

The Angry-Gram Web site fails. Why? Because the Angry Whopper link at the top does not take me to a promotional page for the new item. Instead, I am thrust into the standard BK.com site with its obscure navigation. No links on the page to the Angry Whopper, and typing it into the search doesn't produce results. Once I finally found the navigation (buried in the not-very-intuitive "Explore BK" box at the bottom) and found a menu, the Angry Whopper is not listed on it. This is poor Web site design and bad promotion.

This Madlibs audio viral thing is fairly tired.

However, their Facebook "Whopper Sacrifice" is brilliant:

What beats everything, even their facebook application (which i think is pretty clever in that you have to defriend 10 buddies to get the coupon, the whole time allowing BK to email them + get them involved with the campaign) is their commercials shown over in Europe, primarily Germany, for the new burger... it involves everything you'd want in a burger. S&M, whips, leather, fast-food... MmMmmM
