Tom, Dick, Harry Not Invited to 'The L Word'

tom_dick_harry.jpg

OK. Well, that was fun. Anyway, long time acquaintance Susannah Breslin sent us these ads for The L Word. Another friend, Ariel Waldman, tells me these ads are nothing special saying, "the copywriting isn't spectacular" to which I said "what copy?" There's words in these ads? We were still on the pictures.

Going a bit retro, Nicktoons Network is giving kids everywhere a chance to learn about animation through the distribution of flip books that play back full-motion clips from two of the net's new original animated shows.

The flip books will be distributed free to kids all summer during Nicktoon Network's first cross-country mobile tour, held at Comic-Con International and during the Nicktoons Network Animation Festival at Nicktoons Studios. The flip books are a product of Flippies, an Adrants advertiser and a company that's doing some interesting things with an old-school medium.

We've never seen VH1's Flavor of Love before but our three seconds worth of research tells us it's probobly TV you can miss which is why VH1 has released on YouTube teaser clips for the second season which feature trash talking women whose only redeeming quality seems to be the tantalizing size of their ass. Anyway, it forced us to give them publicity. The show premieres August 6.

Beatboxing White Family Give Black Boyfriend Grief

beatbox_family.jpg

Here's an amazing commercial from MTV that captures all the humorous elements of a boyfriend coming over to his girlfriend's house to pick her up and facing the wrath and annoyance of her family as well as his girlfriend's embarrassment over the confrontation. It ends in the usual way with the girl grabbing the guy and running out of the house as the family continues to berate. But, there's a twist to this ad. The boyfriend is black, the family white and they, not the black guy, speak "beatbox" which, in a stereotypical twist, the black guy can't understand. The ad ends simply with "Speak." It's a powerful message in many ways. It encourages communication on many levels. Parent to child. Child to parent. Family member to family member. Family to boyfriend. Girlfriend to boyfriend. Without one understandable word, the ad communicates better than most ads that carry understandable words.

Atlanta House Branded to Promote 'The Simple Life' On E

IMG_2952.jpg

Well, it's happened. A couple years ago, we said the proliferation of advertising would, one day, reach the point where people's house would be painted with a brand's logo as part of an ad campaign or promotion. To promote the Simple Life on E, an Atlanta house was decorated with the E and The Simple Life logos and the shrubs in front have been trimmed (likely pre-shaped fake bushes) to spell "Sundays". Oh sure, the whole house is just one big purchased promotion and, likely, it's not the first but it's the first we've seen. It's actually done quite well. Particularly nice job on the "broken" window. We wonder what the neighbors think though. A second photo can be seen here.

'Entourage' Boys On Valet Parking Tickets

entourage5_valet.jpg

The marketing folks behind HBO's Entourage have the boys very busy these day days drumming up excitement for the upcoming third season. This time, there they're all over valet tickets in L.A. Dallas-based AdverTickets developed a campaign to hand out 369,000 full-color valet tickets in LA featuring each of the five characters on the show. The valet ticket campaign started May 15th and continues through June 15th. The tickets have received positive attention for the show, including attention from one of its stars - Kevin Connolly (Eric on the show). He got one of the tickets at an L.A. valet and loved it so much that he requested a stack of them for his own personal use. Shouldn't smug fuck Ari be all over this one?
