Auto Ad Banned For Dubbing Big Breasts 'Nice Headlamps'

Oh how boobs can get advertisers in trouble. Especially really big ones with lots of cleavage spilling out of a bra. That seems to be what's at issue with an UlsterTrader billboard campaign carrying the headline "Nice Headlamps" and copy that reads, "What do you look for in a car?"

The campaign is running in England so it's the Advertising Standards Authority that gets to deal with the complaints and rule on whether or not a campiagn is fit for public consumptions. In this case, it deemed the campaign degrading and objectifying to women becasue it linked cleavage to a car's attributes. The Authority stated, "We concluded that the poster had caused serious offence to some readers and was likely to cause widespread offense."

But summing up the incident more concisely is Adland's Ask Wappling who wrote this "will, as always, result in more exposure for this piss poor excuse of an ad, [and] one might think this was the idea in the first place. Either that, or the creators of the ad hoped that punters would see it, and unable to tear their eyes away they'd crash their cars and then need to buy a new one at Ulstertrader.com. Or they were simply really crap creatives and an even worse client who thought this would fly."

Ever so well said.
