Be Careful Where You Step in Cambodia

cambodia_landmines.jpg

In an odd twist, a print and online campaign created by BBDO Singapore is lauding Cambodia's beauty as a travel location and then switching message and calling attention to the 6 million landmines that, are apparently still waiting for someone to step on them. Neat. I wanna go there right now. Expedia, book my flight!

There’s something wrong about this concept. It comes off like a video game versus a serious message. You’d almost expect the “game” to feature the hazards of stepping on landmines and elephant dung piles (with appropriate sound effects for each).

I HighJive makes a very good point. Effective not really. Cambodia is a little like the coral snake, pretty yet very deadly.
