CPB Creates 'Big Bucking Chicken,' Someone Else Buys URL

While we haven't seen the Crispin Porter + Bogusky-created commercial for Burger King called "Big Bucking Chicken," we hear it's pretty weird. But, that's not the point. Apparently, the theme of the commercial involves people saying "Big Bucking Chicken" over and over. Well, what's a poor viewer to do after hearing that? Go to BigBuckingChicken.com of course. But, humorously, BigBuckingChicken.com takes used to take you to a post on a blog written by [name removed upon request] who, on March 10, bought the URL BigBuckingChicken.com and pointed it to his post where he craps all over the commercial. Oops. Hopefully, we can leave it there and enjoy the humor of it all and not later find out the whole thing was an agreement between CPB and [name removed].

And you thought we were gonna go off on the whole, "Gee, it sounds a lot like the guy in the commercial is saying "Big Fucking Chicken" angle. See, we're not always about the lowest common denominator around here.

UPDATE: Some really interesting things have evolved since this story hit. The BigBuckingChicken.com site is now just a blank page. The weblog to which that domain linked is also gone. The person involved requested their name be removed from this article. And the Whois info that identified the owner of the BigBuckingChicken.com domain has been removed. Either the person who bought the BigBuckingChicken.com domain and wrote a negative review of the ad was asked by CP+B or BK to take it all down or the person was in on it with CP+B the whole time. Or, CP+B or BK just went out and bought the domain from the person. Because we don't want to get a potentially innocent person in any trouble, we've complied and removed the name.

It's gone now. Guess the lawyers made a call.

I am glad someone reviewed CPB and Burger Kings commercials. I think the CPB Group has a group of 13 year olds that have no artistic talent, which can only come up with substandard ideas that are annoying at best. These commercials are horrible and only makes me wonder why I should go to BK. I think that if BK's upper management is letting crap like this be released then I can only imagine what the 15 year olds with work permits are doing with the food! Rock on Blogger, whoever you are...

Steve, The site is down now and parked. Expect to see some content there soon I'll bet.
I wonder if that guy made some money off the deal.

Errm....I must be a 13-year-old, because I laughed my ass off the first time I saw it. Color me substandard...

Of course, as a "boy", I also like the Three Stooges and Beavis and Butthead.

Hmmm. I'm not sure this is a new idea. Grand theft Auto: San Andreas made much of a fictional restaurant chain entitled Clucking Bell Fried Chicken. If memory serves, you could also buy a clucking big chicken burger. Once again, a renegade idea is co-opted by the mainstream.

Jess, are you implying that Grand Theft Auto is not mainstream? I appreciate the point you're making about BK co-opting an idea the audience has seen so recently, but Grand Theft Auto is far more mainstream than renegade.

I know that every time I see that commercial, I need to translate the audio back from "Big Fuckin' Chicken" to "Big Bucking' Chicken".

Without the video, it wouldn't be clear at all what the gus is singing!

I'm a little surprise that the "women don't have /shouldn't have nipples" crowd haven't started stamping their feet and holding their breath in the direction of BK.

Ohio Moose... I agree I think it is a push on FCC limits... But it doesn't suprise me since it is CPB Group. They will get it in the end, I am sure of it... Weave you are substandard as you said! but, you havent been hit by a bus out of stupidity yet :)...

I think it's the funniest commercial since Well-Patch brings you back to Well (Patch).

This piece of shit campaign should get this agency canned, and send its other clients scrambling. But the real morons are the jerks at Burger King - they bought this crap, and are happy to fling it at us.

Your ad "big bucking chicken" is not a very good one. My grand daughter came to me and said "Ooh Grandma, the TV said a bad word!" so I watched the ad and had to explain to her that the ad was saying "bucking" and not the F word. This upset me so much that at first I couldn't remember who ran the ad and had to wait for it come back on to know that it was Burger King and not Wendy's or KFC. If your ad is to promote your restaurant, it isn't very good. It in fact it makes one think twice about going.

Thank you,
Anna Markley
