AdCandy Enables People-Powered Advertising

Enabling the consumer-created advertising trend is a company called AdCandy which has positioned itself an exchange for people who think they have great ad ideas and marketers who think consumer-created ads are worthy of buying. We're not quite sure this is going to take off. Afterall, can you imagine anyone in our ego-centric advertising world allowing something to pass for an ad that doesn't have their name all over it so they can tout it during new business pitches and pre-award run ups? Oh wait...this is a good thing! People creating ads for products out of true love rather than ego-maniacle, head-swelling glory.

the thinking behind this project is sound but the execution is lame. no marketer would ever buy the stuff on this site as advertising in the traditional sense--but it does have value as brand love information. but if you wanted pictures of people and brands, flickr does a better job of presenting and sorting images, branded and otherwise...

(i commented on this in the soflow forum more extensively)

I love this part from the website:

"All contest submissions, besides IMAGE submissions, become the property of Adcandy in exchange for consideration to win prizes. All prizes are awarded on the basis of skill and originality. Entrants must be legal U.S. residents, 18 years old or above. There is no cost to enter any Adcandy contest."

No cost ?? Fuck you.

no ad people would buy those ideas...they'll just take them, tweak them a bit and call them their own.
