With Fudge Packed, Y&R Finally Gets New CEO

hamish_mcclennan.jpg

Last year Young and Rubicam CEO Ann Fudge stepped down as CEO of the agency after a rough patch. While Fudge hasn't completely packed and will retain Chairman-CEO of Y&R Brands, Hamish McClennan has been tapped to step in as CEO of Y&R Advertising. McClennan has a tough job ahead as the agency works to right itself.

Hey Steve. Yeah, Kudos for the headline, right up my street. Y&R always has been a "Boys Club" The senior management floor always looked like a 19th century bank managers office with leather couches and sporting prints. The only women allowed on that floor delivered coffee and emptied the ash trays. They screwed Helayne Spivack cause she had more balls than they did. Nothing changes.

A friend of mine at Y&R tells me that they received no internal memo about this news. Sad.

Well, after 18 months, Sir Marty must have been scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Poor Hamish. Still, it shows you have to be a brit (or at least from the empire) to get to the top .. are there no good American Ad guys? Or are they just to smart to get in bed with Sir Marty?
