MySpace Profile Redirects to Porn Site

lindsey_myspace.jpg

Take a trip over to Lindsey's MySpace page and you'll be surprised at what you find. An Adrants readers woke up Saturday morning with 27 new friend requests, on of which was Lindsey so he decided to check her out. When he did, as soon as her page loaded, he was redirected to newxvidz.com, a porn video site. It seems some enterprising porn vendor has found a way to redirect MySpace pages tto sites selling porn videos. Yup, just one more thing for marketers eager to tap the MySpace audience to worry about.

Intentional porn-themed pun?

As someone who, ahem, has spent some time on internet personals sites over the years, this is standard operating practice. The only Friendster messages I still get are fakesters from porn paysites (granted, I haven't logged into Friendster more than six times in the last two years).

I'm surprised it took this long, frankly.

i'm also surprised there hasn't been more of these redirecting pages. it's trivial to do, with a flash movie embedded in the page.

most of the myspace spam friend requests i get don't do the redirect, though, because the redirect makes it a lot harder for the profile to be added to friends lists. it's to the spammer's advantage to have a lot of myspace friends (for example, it lets them send out a spam bulletin to a large audience).

Myspace = home for sexual predators and porn slingers. It's unfortunate, spammers will ruin anything with promise on the web.

It's a practice that's been going on for quite a while. It's nothing new. It's common for folks (including myself) to receive Friend Requests from these bots on MySpace. Their profiles will usually have 1 photo and either an e-mail which will automatically add you to their spam list if you actually decide to contact the person or a link to another site.

Pron (my euphemism for porn) is going to continue to invade the mainstream of Internet content since there is a high demand for it anyhow. MySpace is full of those who like to see girls with little to nothing on.

Very annoying for a clean user of MySpace but also to be expected from a site that has just recently been able to come to grips with its unexpected exponential growth.
