Gwyneth Goes to Africa

Copyranter thinks Gwyneth Paltrow is far too white for this Keep A Child Alive ad in which she dons African apparel above the headline "I Am African." And just so we're sure we understand his opinion, he writes, "Cheers to you that you support a very worthy cause. BUT, allow someone else to do the ads. You'd survive about 10 minutes in African bush. And, you just look completely and utterly ridiculous."

Could be mistaken, but I think the whole point of this is NOT selecting people who look African. Along the "Ich bien ein Berliner" and "We are all New Yorkers" idea. Picking actual Africans for this wouldn't make a ton of sense.

Copyranter needs to brush up on his irony. Besides, give her a break, she's bringing some much needed attention to an area of the world that sorely needs it. Geez.

Isn't this an advertising site? And didn't Copyranter come from the ad industry? How many people would stop and look at the ad if someone who looked African had "I AM AFRICAN" printed across the page? But this graphical oxymoron makes you stop flipping the pages. DUH....

Copyranter needs to brush up on African culture, too. Africa is a place, not a skin color. Perhaps he could take a look at photos of Charlize Theron, Johnny Clegg, Pieter Smith, Nadine Gordimer or Christian Barnaard, all of them among the millions of native Africans whose skin is not black.

wow. for all the shit we give celebs for peddling crap, you'd think we'd lay off someone lending their celeb to a good cause.

i know we're all cynics...but save your rant for something worthy.

No, that's the whole point. We're NOT ranting at Ms. Paltrow. We're ranting at Copyranter for missing the point of using Ms. Paltrow. Oh, forget it.

I'm white and African. That's allowed right?
