New York Times Ad Coverage Has Disappeared
This is just too good to pass up. Commenting on New York Times ad columnists Stuart Elliott's three month vacation and his replacement by Jane L Levere, George Parker writes, "...for fucks sake Jane Baby... Get off your arse and write about advertising... Otherwise, just rename the column... Jane L. Levere's really fucking boring column that has nothing whatsoever to do with advertising, 'cos it's much easier to re-write PR releases from the media companies that take me out to lunch and get me fucked up." Exactly.

Nathanial Ives used to share the advertising space with Steve and they did a superduper job. I was always amazed at Nat's ability to source ad spots and get people to talk openly about them. He is now with adage. natives@nytimes.com was right up there with docholiday@nytimes.com for smile making email adddress. 12% of all ad execs change their email once each year-for whatever reason-job change title change, owner change in this day and age of the press the five digit extension of your party or spell their name last name first then first name then middle name..it is maddening to actually conduct business unless you have a team doing the drudge work in this day of phonebot answering systems.
It's Stuart Elliott, not Steve Elliott. Way to be on top of it.
I was wondering what happened to all the industry news. I check it every day and thought that the NYtimes just stopped caring about it.
oops. Steve Hall must have been on my mind. thanks for the correction KEL.
ugh i know. let's get some new blood in there. anyone know where Stew went for vaca anyway??
I couldn't have put it better myself... Ooops, I did. Jesus, have another drink. And for "Matt's" information "Stew" is vacationing on Fantasy Island, otherwise known as BBD&O/South Pacific. It's where has-been models, actors and singers go to die. That's why you keep tripping over Cindy Crawford, Jason Alexander, The King of Pop and the Donald. Although, have to admit, just posted about how great their Cingular Mum & Daughter spot is... Not a fucking star in it... Maybe they'll turn over a new leaf... As Zippy the Pinhead woud say... Nahhh!
Btw, what the hell is a "PR release" anyway? I've been in this business for 17 years and continue to be delighted by self-aggrandized, blow-hard execs - and their pavlovian minions - who can't even articulate the basics, let alone solve the complex problems of their clients' complex businesses. Cheers all. Sometimes you sound pretty foolish.
public relations release
Earth to NY Times, call Nat Ives.
Jesus Steve
PR means press release!
Man, you know everything. No wonder you're so popular with the ladies.
Cheers/George
I was trying to save you, my man. You were the one who wrote "PR release" as in "press release release." I had to think of something:-)
