'Never Ending Story' Puts Nail in Winding Road Car Ad Coffin

never_ending_renault.jpg

Damn you, AdFreak. We were all ready to get busy with work this morning and you go and point us to a new Renault commercial which, as well as having hotties in bikinis riding bikes, contains the theme song from the movie Never Ending Story, a movie we love and whose contagious music we can never get out of our head once we hear it. We might as well just throw in the keyboard, call it a day, go rent the movie and watch it over and over again for the rest of the day. Yes, we know, the movie and the song are totally bubble gum kid stuff but we loved them then and we love them now.

The commercial itself, created by Publicis Lado C Madrid is quirky beyond words. It delivers hilarious, over the top spoofage of every overused, classic, winding road car commercial in a way that defies description. Yes, it has bikini-clad hotties riding bikes in the air like ET but that is just one small piece of the oddity you will find in this commercial. With its brilliant song selection, this masterpiece blissfully tears apart every car commercial that came before it forever, as AdFreak points out, closing the book on the long overdue retirement of the winding road car commercial.

That music is seriously cheesy. Were you being facetious?

It's nice to hear that I'm not the only person who has this cheesy classic from Limahl sitting on his iPod. Yes its sappy but somehow matches some strange receptor in my temporal lobes. Then again, so does Rammstein's Amerika, so go figure.
