Escalator Hand Rail Ads Grab Attention

Not much to say about this other than it's a pretty cool choice of ad medium. There's not much to do while riding an escalator so you might as well look at ads on the handrail.

I saw something close to this about a year ago at eBay Live.

...or you can just run up the stairs to get to the next floor faster...

but that defeats the purpose of escalators, doesn't it?

As someone who reads cereal boxes, I want to love this idea, but two questions immediately spring to mind:

1) Changing the ads has got to be a b*tch

2) Can you change them fast enough to keep ahead of the godawful grunge (and who knows what else) that's going to build up in a matter of hours?

This medium has been used at some trade shows in Japan for a couple of years, which is how it first hit our radar (July 03). Haven't seen it done at shows in the US yet, but facilities here are much more conservative in allowing show promoters to use adhesives, even if temporary.

Maybe it's me, but I'm usually afraid to touch the handrails of escalators.

I found some more pictures of escalators with advertising on Flickr!

I wonder if this will come to Germany soon? All the pictures appear to be in Asia?
