Lance Armstrong Puts His Face on American Century Investments

lance_face.jpg

While this site called Lance Face featuring Lance Armstrong's head popping onto the heads of other does deliver some important financial messages from American Century Investments, one has to wonder what the connection is between Lance and this effort. If there is one, it's definitely a mystery. Oh wait, American Century Investments Founder Jim Stowers, Jr. had cancer too. That's it. Makes perfect sense. Before all you survivors get pissy about this assessment, I've been where Lance has so I'm allowed to make cancer jokes.

Could it be that Tailwind Sports, the entitiy that owns the Discovery Cycling Team, is an outgrowth of Thomas Weisel Partners ? The people at Tailwind are very savvy money people, it is likely that Mr. Armstong would have rubbed elbows with a lot of investment people via his contacts at TWP. Remember that Thomas Weisel was CEO of Montgomery Securities before the acquisition.

FYI, American Century Investments founder, Jim Stowers, Jr. also happened to endow $2B of his personal wealth to found the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. This world-class bio-medical research facility is dedicated to finding cures for cancer and other gene-based diseases. Like Lance, Jim Stowers, Jr. selflessly gave of his own personal wealth after his retirement, and he invested it in a cause that improves the lives of others. Instead of resting on his laurels, he, too, decided to take meaningful action to fight one of our nation's most aggressive killers. He and Lance share their genuine passion for this cause. And, American Century Investments financially supports Lance via the Lance Armstrong Foundation in an effort to further their mission to make cancer research, prevention and treatment a national priority. So...there's the connection. It's not at all a mystery. In fact, it's quite authentic.
