Cohabitation Stereotypes Promote Middle East Marriage Service

Here's a couple of spots created by TBWA Dubai for an "online matrimonials" site called Bentelhalal (we're guessing that's their version of a dating...arranged marriage? that capture perfectly long-held stereotypes about men and women living together. We won't spoil. Just watch. (1, 2) They're very simple and we like simple. We're not sure about arranged marriages though.

It's interesting that stereotypes continue to dominate the advertising world. I would have figured that by this point, people would need to do something more than show traditional stereotypes and there would be opposition to it.

But, in fact, the newer ads are more stereotypical than ever. I guess, as someone who will eventually be creating ads, it makes my life easier. But what does it say about the rest of us?

Stereotypes aren't just born out of the ether; they exist and are perpetuated because there's oft a grain of truth to them.

I occasionally suspect my parents were an arranged marriage. Just kidding. Sort of.
