Ad for Tancredo Perpetuates Fear and Loathing of Alien-Kind

tom_tancredo.png

Gotta love a politician who points a derisive finger at "aliens" that molest our hallowed borders and threaten the American dream (taking our jobs! Terrorizing innocent people worldwide!).

"Because someone needs to say it." You said it all right, Tom. You said it like the fucking Red Scare.

for me, tancredo (a silly sort of fool) isn't half as scary as the comments on these...

Well, they must be asserting their freedom of speech. :)

Ah, now Ad Rants is getting on the ever growing liberal bandwagon. It makes me puke a little bit in my mouth every time somebody trots out the same old tired nonsense about how conservatives are paranoid.

Let everyone in. Give them all citizenship. All Hail the World Society.

Ninny.

Charles, I don't remember asserting anybody who damn well pleases should be let into the country, and God bless 'em all.

But I also don't think it's safe to vilify non-natives. Who the fuck in America is a native anyway? And who in hell is taking our jobs?

Nobody takes your goddamn job. You do it ineptly and lose it, or somebody does it as well as you for less, or a handful of immigrants take the shit under-the-table work we don't want, and then we look around and go, "So this is what's happened to the American payroll!" -- as if we have the right to be indignant.

Both sides are full of shit, and calling one extreme a humbug isn't suggesting the other's okay.

charles must be a full-blooded cherokee, i can only presume.

Aurelius Tjin: I couldn't agree more. All ideas in the marketplace ... and forums like these are where the foolish ones go to die.

Actually, a great parody/counterpoint ad would be a spot showing a middle-eastern type walking around an airport with a duffel bag -- looking initially suspicious -- and then pulling out a sandwich ... while in the background, a biscpectacled close-cropped white dude with John Lennon glasses (and an american flag lapel pin) leaves a bag (apparently w/ a real bomb) behind. Because you can't judge a book. Unless it's by Jay Mcinerney, then it probably sucks. TAN-CRED-O ... it's a like zithery music ... Tan-creeeeeeeeee-dooooooo

You don't need to be liberal to recognize ill-conceived, sensational advertising.

Posted by: Jessie on November 20, 2007 9:12 AM

The "vote for me or die" angle was done by LBJ in his 1964 "Daisy" ad.

And once Tancedo gets his alien fence built on the Mexican border, then we'll need to build a much longer one on the Canadian border.

Damn Canucks. Stealing our jobs and leaving bombs in our shopping malls.

Wikipedia? uh huh.

I see your vaunted source doesn't mention the fact that there actually WERE soviet spies in the State Department, including Alger Hiss and other high placed guys who were liberal heroes back in the day -- and revealed to have been (guess what) traitors after all when the Soviet Union fell and the Venona Papers and other decrypts came out.

Or do you mean all the fuss about Sacco & Vanzetti (guilty) and the Rosenbergs (guilty) or Oppenhiemer (guess).

Or do you mean the Hollywood 10 -- a bunch of (actual Communist Party member) screenwriters who bravely pretended not to be communists, kept receiving writing jobs and checks all through the so-called Black List and rode their notoriety to even greater fame for the rest of their lives?

Guess what: I wrote all that without Wikipedia or any other source. Just off the top of my head. Because I'm historically literate and I guess you're not.

Funny how liberals always turn out to be wrong long after it is too late to do much about it, huh? But if that feeling of smug self-satisfaction keeps you warm at night, and the promise of even more "diverse" restaurants to tempt your jaded palettes is more important than sovereignty, cool. Just don't get in the way of the smart people who are trying to save you from your own reflexive 'tolerance".

That's right, Fred. I'm a Communist sympathizer who's fucking crazy about chow mein.

Posted by: Angela on November 20, 2007 3:34 PM

This isn't a political blog so I won't rant like some of the others guests. I think labeling Angela as a "liberal" is absurd but I don't take one comment without considering the years of interaction she and I have had on this crazy internet. Charles and Fred, you are both guilty of buying into a propaganda system that is equally as harmful as the "Liberal" system you are blaming Angela of buying into.
Yes, there were and are communist in America.
Yes, there are people here who want to do us harm. Does that make the Patriot Act right? Does that make water boarding morally just?
The world isn't black and white. Neither Liberal nor Conservative are categorically right and superior by the grace of whatever God you may believe in. According to every reputable study done on the America populous are centrist-- your extreme "liberal" bashing views are just as distasteful and childish as the Liberal views you seem to foam at the mouth over.

In short? Shut the fuck up.

attention hysterical conservative loudmouths: please explain this one. it's a listing of the top ten most viewed pages on Conservapedia.com.

( Conservatives like to construct their own little versions of reality, apparently. Wikipedia is, after all, clearly the work of the liberal MSM.)
