Public Self-Gratification Not What It Seems In 'Awkward Shake' Ad

awkward_chake.png

In yet another idiotic use of the jack off meme, a video entitled Awkward Shakes treats us to several awkward moment of guys polishing their knob in situations where polishing the knob would normally be taboo. Except, of course, they're not polishing their knobs? All their doing is shaking their protein shake.

Where have we seen this before? Aside from everywhere, who can forget the famed Shake Weight?

Hmm. maybe this is like a fart. No matter how many time you hear one, it's still funny.

How Do Cannes and SXSW Compare and Contrast?

cannes_2011_dutch_young_creatives_ok.jpg

Written in March following SXSW in Austin

While we knew this was the case for several years now, SXSW Interactive has become a huge event generating conversation the world over. This year's event generated 1.1 million tweets in 5 five days across 200 countries and 19 languages.

Social media monitoring company Synthesio created an infographic summarizing global social media conversation about the Austin, Texas event. Without surprise, the U.S generated the most (71%) conversation followed by the UK (4.6%) and Canada (4.4%).

Some say SXSW is the new Cannes. In some respects, it is. As the advertising industry moves more towards technology and content solutions versus Super Bowl-style creative solutions, this shift in mentality may make sense. But it will be a very long while before the advertising industry gives up its Rose-filled afternoons on the Carlton Terrace or the massive beach parties that occur every night which, by the way, put even the best parties at SXSW to shame.

Adrants is Back. Does Anyone Care? #CannesLions

Cl13-Logo-Homepage.png

So yesterday -- actually Sunday night -- some witty soul (and I use that phrase ever so graciously) decided it would be fun to hack Adrants on the eve of Cannes Lions making it impossible for us to share with you all the event's goodness. Well. we're back.

But does it really matter? Does anyone really care? When we have AdWeek's Tim Nudd and Gabriel Beltrone killing it in Cannes, an entire army of reporters from Ad Age, stellar tweets from Ogilvy, a One Question video series from Advertising Week, live coverage from Campaign and PR Week and the #canneslions Twitter hashtag which -- if you allowed yourself -- you could stare at 24/7...do we really need Adrants?

Who Will You Hook Up With at Cannes This Year?

crashed.jpg

- Have some fun. Drop a name. You never know who you'll hook up with (or wish you had) while at Cannes Lions.

- If you missed it, here's the video of 13-year-old Nick LeGrande making the opening pitch at the Yankees Athletics game from 1,800 miles away courtesy of Google Fiber.

- Want to make a dolphin talk? Have at it with the Green Works Dolphin app. Hmm. Reminds us of SeaquestDSV.

- Today in pretentious car commercials, we have this Lexus IS ad entitled Crowd.

Visa Capitalizes on Social Media ADD With #goinsix

visa_goinsix.jpg

Twitter taught us we can communicate in 140 characters, Vine taught us that we can communicate in six seconds, the average number of words used in Facebook comments is eight and the length of consumer interaction with a brand online continues to decrease.

Building off the insight that, in today's landscape of content surplus -- coupled with serious attention deficit disorder -- lightweight and digestible content appears to be the best way to reach consumers. Acknowledging this scenarios, Visa has launched a new campaign that signifies the company's mission to be "social at the core." It's called #GoInSix.

Family Guy Makes 'Pearl Necklace' Joke in Emmy Bid

family_guy_emmy_girls_150.jpg

Referencing the famed HBO Girls scene in which the Shiri Appleby character receives a "pearl necklace" quickie from her boyfriend, a Family Guy "for your consideration" Emmy ad carries the headline, "Here's A Load of Comedy to Shoot on Your Chest."

Both the scene and the ad were/are bold. But we think the timing is a bit late and even though there's certainly nothing wrong with "expressing oneself" to another as the Adam Driver character did to Appleby, it's all a bit gratuitous even by our standards.

Boost Mobile Makes 6,739,506th Use of Zombie Theme For Brand Films

boost_mobile_zombies.png

It would seem after so many repeated uses of a particular genre, people would tire of the whole zombie thing but, it seems, as long and hot girls (Kristen Stewart) and brilliant writing (Walking Dead) are employed, the genre will remain alive and well.

Opting for the hot girl approach, Boost Mobile, working with The Monkeys, has created a series of mini-movies which weave the use of the mobile phone into the story line.

The Definitive Guide to Marketing Automation

marketo_definitive_guide.png

Marketo calls it marketing automation. HubSpot calls it inbound marketing. Others call it other names. There are grey areas but what we're talking about here is marketing software that makes it easy for your customers to find information about your brand, easy for you to manage the content you share with your customers, easy for you to capture leads and easy for you to nurture those leads into customers.
