Hotel de Maxim Brings Luxe to Super Bowl with Slew of Marketers

hoteldemaxim.jpg

Maxim brings VIP-exclusive event Hotel de Maxim to the South of France to celebrate the Super Bowl in style. A nod to the jet-setting days of St. Tropez in the '60's, Hotel de Maxim shoots to bring party-goers a fete that will make P. Diddy's parties look like visits to The Jungle. With a mix of martinis, slots and caviar, Grandmaster Flash on the tables and live Sirius broadcasting, all it's missing is a vice orgy replica on Second Life.

Marketing cameos will include Cadillac, which will be sporting its White Diamond Escalade; Absolut, bringing its Flavor Fountains and martini station; Coors and the Bullet Girls; and Samsung, who'll be setting up an LCD TV Video Wall Garden.

Hotel de Maxim PR guys asked us to picture Bridget Bardot walking barefoot across the beach as Mick Jagger pours Champagne, but after detailing the scene we're thinking more along the line of Penelope stumbling around with a bowl full of cocaine in Blow right before the cops bust in. Decadence is decadence. Not a huge difference, yeah?

Garmin Releases 'Maposaurus' Super Bowl Spot

garmin_03.jpg

We think people are going to like this new Super Bowl commercial from first-time advertiser Garmin which is promoting personal GPS. We saw the music video of the spot earlier but here is the finished :30. It's 50's-style battle between a monster than emanates from a driver's wind blown road map and the driver whose personal GPS device converts him into a monster fighting super hero. It's just weirdly different enough to achieve some decent recall. Though, it might suffer from the dreaded "what was that commercial selling?" problem the morning after.

Fallon created the commercial for the first time Super Bowl advertiser and will launch a corresponding microsite this Saturday before the game. There's also a blog that digs deeper into the world of the Maposaurus.

Axe Turns Woman's Super Bowl Date Auction Into Promotion

sarah_spain_1.jpg

The LAist, now written by the legendary Tony Pierce, tells the story of a Brentwood, Callifornia woman, Sarah, who created an eBay auction to sell herself to the highest Super Bowl ticket holding bidder. The winner would take Sarah, a Chicago Bears fan, to the game and Sarah would be the perfect date for the day. Well, eBay doesn't like people auctioning themselves off so they closed the bid but Axe heard of it and turned it into a promotion.

The company that prides itself in functioning as a woman magnet for men gave Sarah four end zone tickets to the Super Bowl. She's bringing two of her female friends and the fourth ticket is being given away to the man (or woman, we guess) who crafts the most convincing email and sends it to hotsuperbowldate@hotmail.com. Way to latch on, Axe!

Booble Gets Bobbled By CBS

booble_logosss.jpg

Adult search site Booble.com has, apparently, been trying to get CBS to accept one of its commercials for airing during the Super Bowl. While details are slim, one can assume CBS isn't too keen on having an ad in the game that gushes tantalizingly about Booble's boob finding capabilities. The commercial in question is said to be tamer than GoDaddy's early entry into Super Bowl fame but CBS isn't budging. Of course, some surmise it's just a PR ploy anyway. Who knows. Who really cares anyway? Next

No Super Bowl For P&G, Vista Attacks, Maytag Man Found

doritos_mouse_trap.jpg

- P&G and Unilever has decided to sit out this year's Super Bowl advertising extravaganza and will, instead, allocate dollars to other efforts they feel will provide a better ROI.

- Rather than believing its new operating system is good enough to seel itself, Microsoft is serving up a $500 million worldwide waterfall of advertising.

- A "viral" print ad? Yawn. Snooze. Huh? WTF?

- George is right. The five finalists in the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl are quite good. Our money is one Duct Tape of Mouse Trap.

- George also thinks he has the perfect replacement for the Maytag Man. He thinks it's Elmo Blatch (real name: Bill Bolanfder), the guy who killed the Tim Robbin's character's wife.

drink_water.jpg

- FMBQ reports Royce International Broadcasting alleges to the FCC that Entercom, which hopes to acquire 16 CBS radio stations, is "a highly-leveraged criminal enterprise that cannot be relied on to serve the public interest" an wants the sale stopped.

- It seems the idiocy that is the FM radio promotional stunt may come to an end. FMBW repoprts, "After radio contestant Jennifer Strange died from water intoxication - the result of KDND/Sacramento's water-drinking contest Hold Your Wee for a Wii - syndicated radio personality Erich 'Mancow' Muller has announced that he is creating the Foundation For Responsible Radio and calling for an end to 'voyeuristic FM radio stunts.'" Nah. Opie and Anthony are still out there.

- Cynopsis reports the President's State of the Union address was viewed by a combined station total of 45.5 million people, up from 41.7 million in 2006.

Budweiser Super Bowl 2007 Spots Previewed

bud_super_clips.jpg

Just as we thought, the finished product is always better than the boring B-roll. That's quite evident when you compare the original B-roll of this Dale Earnhardt Jr. Budweiser to a short clip of the finished product. Budweiser is working with MWW Group and the two have released short clips of the ads they plan to run in this year's Super Bowl. There's eight in all and you can view them after the jump. Most seem to have promise.

Big Shocker: Even Citizen Marketers Get a Little Lazy

chevy.jpg

Chevy's running Super Bowl College Ad contest draws to a close as February creeps closer. And this teaser for the reality webisode series that started Monday is the sugar they've got to show for it.

By gad, the Chevy Aveo is textured, spacious and roomy? Good use of $5 words. And we love how the ad devolves into a beer-keg yell. These guys are geniuses. Really.

OMG! Secret Website to be Embedded in Footlocker Super Bowl Spot

kevin_garnett_footlocker.jpg

Apparently, Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett will appear in a Footlocker commercial during the Super Bowl. But that's not the news. It seems the folks handling Footlocker want to guarantee viewership of the commercial by embedding a "secret website" address promoting a contest in the spot and telling everyone about it by seeding a "hidden camera" video in which the "secret" is revealed. Oooo. Get your TiVos ready everyone. This one's gonna be a doosey! And, like, no one has ever done this before either so that's what makes this so, sooooo cool!

Rip into this farce with the rest of your industry mates on the Adrants forumor in comments here..
