Quintura Rounds Up Russian Internet Deals

onion_spires.jpg

Nothing like the threat of a rising new economy to get the blood flowing (thanks, Vlad!). Internet-wise, there's a lot happening in Russia: Mail.ru became its first billion-dollar online company, Blackberries plan to invade, LiveJournal was sold to a Russian firm that aspires to go global -- starting with the US, and in September Russia led total growth in European internet adoption.

The Quintura blog put together a short list of significant deals that occurred in December amongst Russian internet companies.

Russia's urban middle class has expensive taste and money to spare. Time to start thinking eastward, da?

Dancing Robots Bring Retro Appeal to (Endless, Endless!) Holiday Activity

adrants_robot.jpg

If hanging out with the warm-blooded doesn't get you all aglow, build an Exorobot that dances to Daft Punk.

Check out the hula skirt on our fancy new friend.

VML Says Happy Holidays with Handbell Hero

handbell-hero.jpg

Blondie is long gone, so it's rare nowadays that we get asked to ring somebody's bell.

Perceiving our growing sense of injustice, VML invited us to ring its bells with Handbell Hero. It's kind of like Guitar Hero -- WITH BELLS!

This was way funner than that ornery virtual account manager that Burns left us (to die!) with.

Obama Girl Says Bush Is So Lame

obama_bush.jpg

In a new video from our friends over at Barely Political, our fave video girl, Obama Girl and her friends take on President Bush hotly pointing out his lameness all while wishing everyone a happy holiday season. Bush might be lame but the girls sure aren't.

Smart Sheep Make Savvy Friends (Plus You Can Shear Them!)

SeeingSheep.png

This Smartwool campaign by TDA ADVERTISING & DESIGN, Boulder, suggests Smartwool's sheep can outdo seeing eye dogs, gun dogs and St. Bernards. Very cute.

The tagline: "Sheared from the smartest sheep."

We're not sure why Smartwool thought endearing smart sheep to us would make us want to buy socks made of said sheeps' hide. But this isn't really the time to protest. We are wearing woolly socks now. They are warm and cozy. And if exchanging them for cotton socks would give a smart sheep its groove back, we would say no.

Butternuts Beer & Ale Billboard Comes Alive, Attacks Pedestrians

porslap_times_square.jpg

Earlier this month, we wrote about Butternuts Beer & Ale farm-themed campaign that's gracing the CBS SuperScreen in Times Square through New Year's Eve. As a follow on to the campaign, the brewer's agency Woods Witt Dealy & Sns have cobbled together a Drink Responsibly video about getting smashed. And this kind of smashed involves an angry billboard and a bunch of beer cans.

Some (Not Us) Feel Droga5 Isn't Worthy of Creativity's Agency of the Year

droda5_agency_year.jpg

In the spirit of living up to our apparent affinity for mudslinging as noted by MultiCultClassics, we give you this just-received tidbit from a reader who just doesn't think Droga5 should have been awarded Creativity's Agency of the Year crown.

The reader writes, "Apparently many higher up in the NY ad agency world are irritated and confused as to how Creativity could name Droga5 as agency of the year. they haven't produced one national campaign, have not one one new piece of business. no real breakthrough work for the year and the business they are producing for are pro-bono. people i know that work at Droga5 are equally as confused by the whole thing. internally they're hearing about "cut-backs." also pissed as to why the whole agency wasn't photographed for the cover. yikes. people are pointing to the obvious infatuation Creativity Magazine editors have with the agency. one female editor is roaming the halls at D5 a little too frequently. maybe it's droga's charm? i say, more power to em. screw the holding companies."

Cherry and Cake Celebrates Birthday With Cherry and Cake

cherry_cake.jpg

OK so here's something you don't see on an agency website very often. Then again, when your agency is named CherryandCake it all seems fairly normal. The Belgium-based agency is celebrating its first birthday.

Violet Blue Unveils the Top Ten Sexiest Geeks of 2007

veronica_belmont.jpg

Not that this has anything to do with advertising but...actually, it has nothing to do with advertising other than the fact some of these people work in companies that have to do with media and advertising. We're talking about the Top Ten Sexiest Geeks of 2007. OK, OK, yes, it's a stretch but it's the last real work day of the year and aren't you sick of reading about advertising? Besides, it has a little something to do with Adrants.

Good. So now let's bathe in the beauty of this year's sexiest geeks as tabulated by Violet Blue. Topping the list is Mahalo Daily Producer and Host Veronica Belmont who Violet Blue describes as possessing a "breadth of knowledge about tech and tech (and gaming) culture might just distract you from her gorgeousness for a minute." We stared for a few minutes an she is indeed gorgeous. Having never spoken to her, we aren't yet distracted from her gorgeous beauty.

ABSOLUT PEAR VODKA Promoted With Gluttonous Snake

vodka_pears.jpg

It's cool that snakes can stretch to accommodate their prey, but it's not really something we like to think about after seeing this image.

Florida is a truly fucked-up place.

Anyway, ABSOLUT VODKA is promoting its PEARS variation on 10,000 TouchTunes music systems from December 20th to January 4th. The creative will be comprised of alternating billboards: The one at left, and this one.

We want it on record that if snakes didn't creep us out, and if we happened to own one, it wouldn't eat pears. It would eat spider monkeys.
