Hitler Tweets, Kanye Popped, Montauk Monster Demystified

hitler-twitter.jpg

- It's another raging Hitler appropriation. This one's called "The Rise and Fall of Twitter." Given that we've had similar spittle-fits over Twitter's goddamn down time, it's pretty funny, actually.

- Some nights you just need to pop a Kanye into your glass.

- Lack of bear at Black Bear Diner.

- So I guess the Montauk Monster is a guerrilla effort for an indie movie called Splinterheads.

- British carrier TalkTalk is trying to help fight autism with a campaign called The Forever Story. Alongside the common man, authors like Nick Hornby will contribute to a story that's supposed to go on forever. For every contribution, TalkTalk will donate 1 pound (the currency) to a charity called Treehouse.

Amanda Beard Gets Naked in China For PETA's Fur Campaign

Amanda_Beard_Rather_Go_Naked_Peta.jpg

In addition to "nude" Olympian appearances in a recent Powerade campaign, Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard got "naked" for PETA in support of the organization's Don't Wear Fur campaign. Apparently her public appearance at a news conference in Bejing was too much for Chinese officials to handle who shut her down, reportedly, for safety reasons. She then moved to another location an unveiled the ad to the usual swarm of photographers and gawkers.

Likely, China isn't so accepting of PETA's freedom of speech-enabled mode of operation given that, according to PETA, Chinese fur farms aren't the greatest places for a furry animal to find itself.

Yeah, Those Would Be Breakdancing Bees

breakdancing-bees.jpg

For every beehive lost, a b-boy somewhere goes up in smoke.

Put together by Feed Company for client Haagen-Dazs, which hopes to raise awareness about the high rate of honey bee deaths. (The shorthand: honey bees are dying in increasing numbers. We depend on them for one-third of our food supply, so if they all die, well ... let's just say no more ice cream for you.)

Visit Help the Honey Bees to read more. Cute site. Sad how the little bee just falls into the grass and dies, though. Kinda reminded me of this.

Luckily (maybe?) for future bees, the breakdancing bee video is generating steam from breaker fans. See YouTube comments. Then hey, go buy ice cream. (Chocolate peanut butter is smooooth.)

Blue Cross Makes Pets Talk

strange-talking-dog.jpg

Seriously. And they have accents.

Put together by WWAV Rapp Collins London, the destination lets you stuff human vocal chords into one of the pets available, or upload a shot of your own pet. A "virtual newshound" reads news headlines from its host site.

All this is to promote All About Pets, a British pet charity run by The Blue Cross. (The site's really nice: soothing colors and curvy corners and tags and widgets. Petcare has come a long way.)

According to Greenpeace, Even Trees Have Sex

tree_porn.jpg

OK, so this has been covered everywhere but it isn't news until it appears on Adrants. Oops. Sorry about that pompous attitude. Just read a Bob Garfield article and it must have had an undue influence. Anyway, Greenpeace, much like PETA, often resorts to sensationalistic tactics when it comes to its advertising campaigns. This recent bit of tree hugging is no different.

Classic Ad Gimmicks Used to Help Save Energy

attitude-hair.jpg

This is sorta nifty. Motivated by the assumption that youth adopt ideals based on how they're presented, Grey/Madrid launched Compra esta actitude ("Buy this attitude") on behalf of the Madrid City Council.

The effort tells people to save energy by twisting up gimmicks we're all familiar with. Ads were inspired by shampoo and perfume ads, and even those totally improbable amateur online videos.

Creative is divided by medium: Internet, TV, Radio, Grafica. Run a barcode scanner over each to see the work. The image at left is from the shampoo spoof, where a woman with lustrous hair swings it in the direction of a lightswitch and flips it off. And here's the online video they're pushing: "The light pong masters," inspired in part by stuff like "Guy catches glasses with face" for Ray Ban. Expect some heavily edited, totally improbable ping pong action. Yeah, baby, yeah.

Women Make Less, and You Can Take That to the Bank

women-money-thumb.jpg

To make a point about how women make less money than men in the work force, Miljopartiet de grona -- the green party in Sweden -- ran a print ad that compares currency featuring men to lower-value currency featuring women. The tagline: "Different gender, different worth."

Commercial Archive observes the idea's been done before; moreover, income disparity is slightly more complicated than some male-chauvinist exec going "Hey, a girl, I'm gonna SAVE."

On a casual YouTube quest for gender-disparaging videos, I found this clip about penis power. Please watch it. It will make your whole day. (Yes yes, SFW, but plug your headphones in.)

Ooo...there's so much feel-good goodness here, crassly commenting on the curvaceous hotness of the t-shirt model would bring things down a bit don't you think?

Just Another Sad Chick Who Thinks Sex Will Save Puppies

regina-russell-brad-garrett.jpg

Subject Line: How Sex with Brad Garrett Can Save Puppies!

Body: This is hilarious! You got to see it. Regina Russell partners with us at The Humane Society of the United States from time to time and oh man is the video a riot! She is one creative gal producing this video!

Homegirl's not that funny. Though I can see how the scene with the bear and the cigarette might elicit a hoarse guffaw.

To Push Pickens Plan, T. Boone Pickens Takes Aim for Our Wallets

t-boone-pickens.jpg

Lately I can't turn the TV on without running into an ad for the Pickens Plan, T. Boone Pickens' $58 million attempt to liberate the US from its sordid addiction to foreign oil.

Interesting things about Pickens and this campaign:

o Pickens is an oil magnate. (Can you hear the crows going "OMG! OMG!"?) Soon, he'll be a wind magnate too.
o The ads are totally finance-focused. Pickens hardly says the e-word ("environmental") at all.
